Ready to be an Exhibition Sport at PON, PBESI Discusses Sports in Esports

GAMEFINITY.ID, Jakarta – The implementation of the 2021 PON in Papua will not take too long. After being postponed due to the pandemic, PON 2021 is planned to be held in October this year. Since last year, it has been predicted that esports will be able to join as one of the sports (sports) that will be competed.

As part of the online gaming industry, many ordinary people still don’t understand the sporting side of esports. Therefore, the Indonesian Esports Executive Board (PBESI) held a webinar entitled “Esports: Sport or Not?”. The goal is that more parties can be educated about the sports side of esports itself.

Webinar held on Wednesday (10/3) night via Zoom and Youtube Live Stream. Present as speakers were Benny Moza, Ex-Pro Esports Athlete; Bangen, Esports Team Owner and Fendy, Daily Chair of ESI Papua. This event was moderated by Debora Imanuella, as Senior Vice President of UniPin Community.

With more than 10 years of experience in the world of esports and a former world champion in Point Blank, Benny Moza said that being a pro-player requires a lot of time. He mentioned that it took him 12 hours a day to train in order to reach the world level,

“When you want to be a pro-player, you have to sacrifice one side of life. Because it sacrifices time and we learn in there. So it’s not just playing capital, we’re good at it, and then we win. It’s the struggle before the champion that matters.”

Like athletes in other sports, the role of exercise is very crucial. Fendy also added that through this webinar, parents can be educated on the difference between playing regular games and practicing. Because for training, being an esports athlete, in the end what you want to achieve is an achievement. Fendy also mentioned that in addition to technical game play, many soft skills are needed to be able to form good pro-players,

“It takes coaching, it can be with someone like Bangpen or Benny to be a role model for them (friends in Papua). Especially in terms of attitude.”

Although different from conventional sports such as football and basketball, Bangpen also emphasizes the source of esports growth that is rooted in the community. So according to him, the whole ecosystem needs to be preserved. This includes nurturing talents in regions in Indonesia, which should not be concentrated in one area only. Moreover, with the huge need for technology in the esports element, technology infrastructure support will have a major impact in encouraging communities in various regions to grow.

Therefore, according to Fandy, the 2021 PON committee has prepared many things to be able to accommodate esports exhibition matches in Papua. Fendy has also leaked a few games that will be competed such as DOTA 2, Mobile Legend, Free Fire and PES. He ensured that even though this sport will not win a medal, esports will be treated the same as other sports competing for medals.
