PUBG 2 Reportedly Could Be Released for Mobile This Year

GAMEFINITY.ID, Jakarta – PUBG Corporation is reportedly planning to release a sequel to its hit battle royale game, Player Unknown’s Battlegrounds (PUBG) earlier this year. according to Bloomberg, the South Korean developer plans to release a new battle royale mobile game this year “based on PUBG”. They will also be releasing another “PUBG-related” console and PC game in 2022, although it is unclear whether they will use the same title.

The news continues previous news in South Korea in November, who claimed that PUBG parent Krafton was working on a new game in the world of PUBG called ‘Project XTRM’. According to the publication’s sources, the project has been in development since early 2021 for mobile, console, and PC and is “very likely” to be PUBG 2.

PlayerUnknown’s Battlegrounds was released in 2021 and is one of the most successful games of all time. Krafton claims the PC and console versions of PUBG sold more than 70 million copies and the mobile version was downloaded about 600 million times.

The company’s CEO, Kim Chang-han, told Bloomberg that they also have plans to create an animated series, television and film based on the game. Krafton itself is planning an IPO in mid to late 2021, with a target of raising funds of 30 trillion won (approximately IDR 383 trillion).

Eugene Investment & Securities Co. said that if the funds were successfully raised, it would be the biggest IPO in South Korea’s history. In a recent interview with Polygon, PUBG’s new Creative Director Dave Curd said in 2021 it would introduce larger-scale maps to the game, and highlighted elements of survival that he says set it apart from other titles.

Curd takes over the role of Creative Director from PUBG maker Brendan Greene, who is currently working on a new game franchise that will debut from PlayerUnknown Productions. Announced in December 2021, the project dubbed “Prologue” was described as an “exploration of new technologies and gameplay”, with the aim of providing players with a “unique and memorable experience”.
