Project Hazel, Razer's N95 Mask Concept with Voiceamp Technology and Light Sensor

GAMEFINITY.ID, Jakarta – The COVID-19 pandemic has made masks one of the basic necessities. Unfortunately, sometimes the use of masks actually makes the user’s voice less audible. Razer uses this to introduce a new product in the form of a smart face mask.

Razer has always been better known as a company that focuses on presenting a variety of gaming accessories, such as keyboards, speakers, or mice. However, since the COVID-19 pandemic emerged, Razer has become one of the brands that has helped prevent the spread. This was done by diverting several production lines to make medical masks to be used by health workers and distributed to various parts of the world in need.

Razer’s smart mask concept is called Project Hazel. Quoted from the BBC, the prototype exhibited at the CES technology convention is claimed to make the user’s voice sound louder. The company said the masks were classified as N95 surgical masks.

The mask itself is made of transparent plastic, making it easier for people to read lips and see the face of the person wearing it. Transparent masks are not a new innovation because they are already widely sold in the market. But the company says the masks they are developing also have light sensors.

That means the inside of the mask lights up automatically when it’s dark and can light up your mouth. Razer claims this feature allows users to “express themselves clearly regardless of lighting conditions”. Razer says silicone that fits snugly around the face will make the wearer comfortable and can prevent the mask from touching or sticking to your mouth.

It’s also said that thicker in-ear straps put less pressure on your ears. The patented mask “voiceamp” feature is arguably the most technologically advanced aspect of the mask. The company says the microphone and speaker will make your voice clearer.

The inaudible voice is indeed a special problem regarding the use of traditional masks. Given that this mask is still a concept, there is no certainty whether and when Project Hazel will be launched to the public. However, Razer says it has plans to continue with this concept, taking advantage of user feedback.
