Police Arrest Cheat Dealers From China with IDR 1.1 Trillion Turnover

GAMEFINITY.ID, Jakarta – The Kunshan Police, China has uncovered what is said to be the world’s largest video game cheat dealer. As reported BBC, a collaborative operation between the Kunshan police and Chinese gaming giant Tencent managed to seize about 46 million USD in assets, including “several” luxury cars.

The cheat maker group involved reportedly designed and sold cheats for popular online games, such as Overwatch and Call of Duty Mobile. According to the authorities, the group generates revenue of around 76 million USD or around IDR 1.1 trillion through subscription fees charged to clients.

Subscription prices for users start from around 10 USD (approximately Rp. 145 thousand) per day to 200 USD (approx. 2.9 million rupiah) per month. The operation, called “Chicken Drumstick,” has a website that sells cheats to hundreds of countries and regions.

The Kunshan Police found and destroyed 17 cheats and arrested 10 people linked to the network. They claim the crackdown operation is “the largest in the world” for a cheat network, due to the huge amount of money and games involved.

The problem of cheating in online games has become more common in recent years, as esports and professional online games like Fortnite have grown. A 2021 survey revealed that about a third of gamers admitted to using cheats to improve their online game.
