Official, Nintendo Acquires Canadian Studio Behind Luigi Mansion

GAMEFINITY.ID, Jakarta – Nintendo announced the acquisition of studio Next Level Games (NLG). The game studio based in Vancouver, Canada was acquired by Nintendo for an undisclosed amount. Reporting from Gameindustry.biz, the ownership of the game developer Luigi’s Mansion 3 was previously owned by the director and his employees. Some of them have recently decided to sell them.

This gave Nintendo the opportunity to make the studio a wholly owned subsidiary of the company. The details of the agreement for this acquisition process have not been revealed, but the process will be completed on March 1, 2021.

Next Level Games was created in 2002 and is best known for its partnership with Nintendo in game series such as Mario Strikers Charged, Punch Out!!, Metroid Prime: Federation Force and Luigi’s Mansion 2 and 3.

In its announcement, Nintendo said the acquisition would have little effect on their finances in fiscal 2021. With this purchase, Nintendo will gain resources in the form of game development expertise from NLG and the availability of its human resources. Staff exchanges with Nintendo’s development team will also occur.
