In fact, Drodo Studio even dared to bring the Dota 2 game mod into a mobile game for Android and iOS devices with the title “Auto Chess”. Not wanting to be left behind by Drodo Studio’s steps, Steam as the owner of the Dota 2 game has also released its own “auto battler” game with the title Underlord. Yep, this auto battler genre game is also becoming a trend and more and more.

Well, not long ago, Tencent, the giant mobile game developer from China, didn’t want to be left behind. They also officially released an auto battler game with the title Chess Rush. So, is this game able to eject Auto Chess and Underlord which incidentally has been released first among gamers? Well, let’s review this game in full.

Gameplay (7.5)

This game has almost the same gameplay as other auto battler games. You will find characters with different jobs. In matches, you can combine characters with these jobs to produce deadly combos and buffs. Apart from luck, strategy in building combos is also one of the keys to winning in this game, guys! You will be determined as the winner after defeating 7 other players.

Tencent, of course, has prepared a differentiator for its game from other Auto Battler games. One of them is a more diverse game mode. Like in Rank Mode, you can find Turbo mode as well as Co-Op mode. As the name implies, with turbo mode you can finish the game faster. In this mode, Tencent reduces the amount of your HP which is usually 100 to 60. On the other hand, Tencent makes it easier for you to get mana crystals (coins to buy heroes in the store) so you can more easily get the hero you want.

Unlike other auto Battler games, Chess Rush provides a Co-op mode where you can play together and collaborate with other players or friends. The gameplay itself is almost the same. The difference is, you will find 2 empty slots on the left side of your chessboard. Well, the two empty slots can be filled with two heroes of your choice who will later help your friends fight against their enemies. Rank in this game is also divided into 3 parts according to the mode you play. Rank in order starting from Pawn, Rook, Knight, Bishop, Queen and the highest is King.

Graphics Quality (7)

The overall graphic quality is pretty good. Players can adjust the quality of the images produced by this game starting from the resolution, even the frame rate. Of course, this graphic setting is very important so that the game can adjust to the specifications of the smartphone used. As a result, this game can of course be played with smartphones from low end to high end.

In the game, you will also be spoiled with animations from the characters which are quite interesting. Where each character has their own special attack that can produce really cool graphic effects. But unfortunately, when I tried the ASUS Zenfone 5 smartphone with Qualcomm SDM636 Snapdragon 636 Chipset and 4GB RAM, I found a lag when each hero issued his skills simultaneously. The author uses the Standard Graphics Quality, Medium Resolution, and Normal Frame Rate settings. But of course this will not affect the course of the game.

Talking about control, of course this game is not much different from other auto battler games. Where you can find the shop on the bottom right of the screen and to level up on the bottom left of the screen. To put a hero, just swipe/drag. For control, I think it’s not too difficult and still comfortable.

This game is of course very addictive and not boring. Because the core of this game itself is strategy and luck. Yep, the strategy in building an army where you have to be able to mix and match between races and buffs really makes this game not boring.
