Nintendo Expands Nintendo Switch Gaming Starlight Station in US Hospital

GAMEFINITY.ID, Jakarta – Being in the hospital is certainly not something fun. Nintendo took advantage of this by launching the Starlight Nintendo Switch Gaming station in the United States. The hope is that the presence of Nintendo’s Starlight can make patients at the hospital not bored and entertain the children so that they continue to be enthusiastic about recovering.

Nintendo’s Starlight isn’t really new. Launched in 2021, the gaming console was initially available at Mary Bridge Children’s Hospital in Tacoma, Washington. The console comes in four designs (Mario, Princess Peach, Yoshi, and Donkey Kong) and is specially designed for easy disinfection and cleaning. The 25 games preloaded to the Gaming Station include The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild, Super Mario Maker 2, Super Mario Party, Pokemon: Let’s Go Pikachu, Super Mario Odyssey, Stardew Valley, Cuphead, and Minecraft.

Starlight itself is a Nintendo Switch-based console with a few modifications to help make it easier to move around the hospital environment and go from room to room. Quoted from Nintendo Life, Starlight is tailor-made to meet strict infection safety protocols.

“Games bring joy to children trapped in hospitals by providing much-needed entertainment and distraction from stressful situations. Games can even provide emotional support, thereby reducing anxiety and elevating mood.”

The play station can move anywhere in the hospital and keep children entertained and distracted from their illness. This is especially important with many playrooms closed due to COVID-19.
