Is a Gaming Monitor With 390Hz Important and Relevant?

GAMEFINITY.ID, Denpasar – Acer has just released their new monitor that has a very high refresh rate at 390Hz, the monitor is the Acer Nitro XV252QF. This monitor is intended for you hardcore gamers. But with these fantastic numbers, is a monitor with a 390Hz refresh rate relevant and important?

As you know, the higher the refresh rate, the smoother the resulting image, right? But can you tell the difference between a monitor with a refresh rate of 300Hz and 390Hz? You can easily tell the difference between a 60Hz monitor and a 120Hz monitor, but you will find it difficult to judge the difference between a monitor with a refresh rate of 144Hz and a monitor with a refresh rate of 244Hz. Well, that’s all it’s hard to do, especially when you are asked to distinguish between monitors with a refresh rate above 300Hz, for example, 300Hz and 390Hz. So what causes this?

Before that you have to know what Frame Time is. Frame Time is the delay frame to the next frame, or roughly the time it takes to display the next frame, the smaller this value, the smoother the video movement and the more responsive it will feel. Now, look at the table below.

We assume that you get FPS = Refresh Rate monitor you can easily see the difference between 30FPS, 60FPS and 120FPS because the delay is very far but if you look from 144FPS to 240FPS you will find it difficult to see the difference because the delay is only 2.7ms and for you most will not be able to distinguish 300FPS and above because just look at the table, the difference between 300FPS and 390FPS is only 0.5ms.

Why do I mention “most” people? If you are a hardcore esport player and have trained your eyes, then you can distinguish this small, but for you esports or casual players it seems that you will find it very difficult to see the 2.7ms delay.

So, is this 390Hz monitor an important innovation? It doesn’t seem too important, especially since most people can’t tell the difference between 300FPS and above, it’s more important to innovate mini-LED monitors with local dimming zones that reach tens of thousands compared to this.

Are monitors with this refresh rate relevant? So the answer is yes and no. Yes, if you are a hardcore esport player who can feel the difference of 1ms and below, but for most people you won’t really feel the difference so the monitor is not very relevant.

So what’s the point of manufacturers releasing monitors with this super duper fast refresh rate? There are only two reasons I can come up with, the first is for harcore esport players and the second is to claim the title of being the fastest monitor in the world just because they can.
