Google is rumored to be buying Epic, what's the motive?

GAMEFINITY.ID, Bandung City — Competition in the digital business world is commonplace. Many companies have tried various efforts, including controlling and monopolizing the market. Although it seems a little cruel, it is considered to be one of the most effective ways to dominate the market.

Starting from Epic’s feud with Apple and Google which is considered that Epic is trying to avoid revenue sharing by presenting its in-app payment feature directly. This is considered to have violated the initial agreement, resulting in applications from Epic being kicked from the App Store and Google.

This policy was later criticized by Epic who considered they had tried to monopolize the market in order to maintain their power and existence. This is done by Apple and Google by enticing third parties into “anti-competitive agreements” that exist in the App Store and Play Store.

Even though many months have passed, the problem has not faded. Now Google is reportedly considering buying part or all of Epic.

On this news, Tim Sweeney as CEO of Epic Games explained that he did not know the motive for Google’s actions to stop their competition with Google Play. Instead, the Google Play manager revealed that the flow that users of the Epic app were accessing was difficult enough that it resulted in a poor User Experience.

Whether this would have been a negotiation to buy Epic or some sort of hostile takeover attempt is unclear.

Before this happened, Epic had stated in court documents that one of the managers from Google had contacted them regarding the Fortnite application. The manager says the sideloading action (downloading from outside the play store) has bad UX for users. What should be able to be done in just 2 steps from the Play Store now has to go through 15 steps.

However, Epic Games remains concerned that limiting usage through sideloading is a tactic used by Google to protect the market monopoly system that has been running so far.

So how do you think the continuation of this case will turn out? Will the giant Google be able to beat Epic in this competition?
