Get to know Akira Kazama, a new character in Street Fighter V: Champion Edition
The appearance of the name Akira Kazama from Rival Schools as one of the additional characters for Street Fighter V: Champion Edition is quite surprising to many parties. Then, who is he?
The Street Fighter V Summer Update live streaming from Capcom has been eagerly awaited by fans of this legendary fighting game. The reason is, this show will reveal the last character of Street Fighter V: Champion Edition which will be coming soon.
In the broadcast revealed that Capcom will present characters such as Dan Hibiki, Rose, Oro, Akira Kazama. The fourth name mentioned is enough to make a surprise.
Akira Kazama comes from Capcom’s lesser-known Rival Schools franchise. Previously, Sakura Kasugano who is a popular character in Street Fighter also appeared from Rival Schools: United by Fate.
While it may take a while for this to happen again, it’s not too surprising to see characters from Rival Schools switch to Street Fighter.
Rival Schools is a game title that was first released in 1997 as an arcade game and came to the PlayStation the following year. More than a decade later, Capcom then re-released its first game, United by Fate, in 2012 on the Japan PlayStation Network.
As the name implies, the battles in the game have the atmosphere of a school yard and feature a roster of characters with student backgrounds.
More specifically, the background of this game is Aoharu City, a fictional city in Japan, where a number of local schools have been subjected to unknown kidnappings and attacks. Their characters and backgrounds revolve around finding out who is responsible for the chaos that ensues.
One of the main characters in the game’s storyline is Daigo Kazama, a student and gang leader from Gedo High. Daigo is a playable character in the PlayStation version and is not playable in the arcade version because he disappeared before the United by Fate series was released.
It was in this series that players were first introduced to Daigo’s younger sister, Akira Kazama. His backstory follows the search for Daigo, starting with his appearance as a motorcycle rider in an all-black outfit and a skull-themed helmet.
At that time fans of the game were drawn to the design and wondered what this character would look like, especially since Akira pretended to be Daigo’s little brother, not a girl.
In the Metroid-inspired storyline, Akira’s gender is only revealed at the end of the game after Daigo addresses his sister as “a woman.”
Akira’s fighting style is quite unique, with the basis of the Chinese martial art Bajiquan which focuses on using elbow and shoulder attacks.
Two moves that fans really look forward to are the Energy Focus Cluster attack which focuses on aiming and firing energy attacks at the opponent and his Fractured Heaven Stance as an important move in launching special attacks.
Street Fighter V fans will be able to find out more about Akira in the near future. On the other hand, Capcom has yet to reveal a fifth additional character for the 5th or final Season of the game series.
