George Russell Dominates Virtual Formula 1 Race with Six Wins in a row

GAMEFINITY.ID, Jakarta – Williams driver George Russell won for the sixth time in a row in the virtual Formula 1 racing series on Sunday (14/2/2021). Meanwhile, Haas managed to win the team title, beating Ferrari.

The 22-year-old British racer won the Esports version of the Brazilian Grand Prix at the Interlagos Circuit. Russell’s previous four wins were in a row in last year’s virtual race, which was held to fill the competition void due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

As reported by Reuters, this year the mini-tournament consists of three series and is participated by professional gamers and real racers using the Formula 1 video game platform with a prize of 100,000 USD (approximately Rp. 1.4 billion) which will be donated by the winning teams. The virtual Formula 1 Pro Series Championship will start later this year.

In the last race, Russel who started from P14 benefited from a collision incident at the first corner on the opening lap. Russell used soft tires instead of the medium used by most of the participants in the 36-lap race. However, Russell was able to take advantage of the softer tire compound to finish first.

Despite missing the first series this year, Russell won the second series at the Silverstone Circuit last week. Haas, represented by Brazilians Enzo and Pietro, both grandsons of two-time world champion Emerson Fittipaldi, qualified for the championship team and won $20,000 which was donated to the Grand Prix Trust.

Enzo, the winner of the first race in Russell’s absence, became the overall champion of the mini virtual tournament. Former Red Bull driver Alexander Albon, now in charge of the reserve racer, finished the race in third place behind Enzo Fittipaldi.
