Free Fire and FIFA Replace Dota 2 and Tekken at SEA Games 2021?

GAMEFINITY.ID, Jakarta – The puzzle of which esports games will be contested at the SEA Games Vietnam 2021 has finally begun to be revealed. Rumors are circulating, there will be 6 video game titles that will be competed. There are two replacement games from the numbers previously competed at the 2021 Philippines SEA Games, namely Free Fire and FIFA Online 4 which replaced Dota 2 and Tekken 7.

Rumors of the inclusion of Free Fire as one of the esports numbers contested in the biennial event were blown by the Free Fire Team NXL division manager, Fisal Junior. On his Instagram account @nxlfisaljunior46, Sunday (29/11) Fisal includes screen captures of games that will be competed at the SEA Games 2021. One of them is Free Fire.

Vietnam as the host as well as the committee has the right to choose the title of the game to be contested. This decision certainly raises the pros and cons among the fans. One of them is related to the number of players from countries who play the games being contested.

For your information, FIFA Online 4 is a PC game published by Garena in the Southeast Asia region. However, in several countries including Indonesia, the game has not yet been released and is still in the FIFA Online 3 version. Meanwhile, Dota 2 actually has a large number of players in Southeast Asia. If it was replaced with Free Fire, it would definitely cause a reaction from the community, even though the Free Fire community is now also a game that is growing rapidly.

Reportedly, the other four games that will be contested are Starcraft 2, Hearthstone, Arena of Valor, and Mobile Legends: Bang Bang. Starcraft 2 itself is less popular in Southeast Asia, but in Vietnam it has many professional players. There has been no official statement from the organizing committee of the 2021 SEA Games, which is scheduled to take place in Hanoi, from November 21, 2021 to December 2, 2021. Let’s see if there will be a change in the number of games being contested again which will benefit the hosts or not.

Esports itself is one of the new numbers to be competed at the Southeast Asian sporting event. This number has only started to be competed officially in 2021, after previously being a demonstration event at the 2021 Jakarta-Palembang Asian Games.
