Facing the Loss Case of Rp20 Billion Belonging to Winda EVOS, Maybank Rents Hotman Paris

GAMEFINITY.ID, Jakarta – The case of the loss of savings of Rp. 20 billion belonging to an eSport athlete from the EVOS team, Winda Lunardi or who is familiarly called Earl, is now entering a new phase. PT Bank Maybank Indonesia Tbk (Maybank Indonesia) as the bank where Winda and her mother, Floletta Lizzy Wiguna keep their money, have now hired a well-known lawyer, Hotman Paris Hutapea to handle the case.

Quoted from his personal Instagram account, @hotmanparisofficial, on Monday (9/11/2021), Hotman stated the reason why he wanted to defend Maybank Indonesia in the case of the alleged burglary of the customer’s account. According to Hotman, this case is not an ordinary burglary. In addition, the investigation into this case has actually been running since May 2021.

“Many are wondering why Hotman Paris wants to defend Maybank in the case of alleged customer account burglary. I replied, I have been a lawyer for Maybank for many years. The alleged case of account burglary is an old case that has been investigated by the National Police Headquarters since May 2021. I carry out my duties as an advocate.”

According to the 61-year-old lawyer, this case is complex. There are many things in the case of the loss of customer funds that are not widely known to the public. The lawyer who was nicknamed the “King of Bankruptcy” also always takes into account the cases he defends with careful consideration.

“This case is not as simple as it seems. There are things you really don’t know, not just alleged break-ins. We will wait for the competent authority’s decision.”

As previously reported, Winda Earl on Thursday (11/5/2021) with his team of attorneys visited the Criminal Investigation Police Office, Jakarta. He wanted to ask the police about the case of the disappearance of his and his mother’s savings worth Rp. 20,879,000,000. Winda previously reported on May 8, 2021 and the report was registered with the number LP/B/0239/V/2021/Bareskrim.

Meanwhile, in his official statement as quoted from Kompas.com, Maybank President Director Taswin Zakaria stated that his party had indeed conducted a related investigation. He even admitted that the report to the police was actually done by the company.

“Maybank is also here as a reporter, asking for legal protection and investigation of possible involvement of parties other than internal. Please let us follow and respect the ongoing process first.”

The Bareskrim Polri has named one suspect who incidentally is a bank employee, namely the Head of the Maybank Cipulir Branch with the initials A. The suspect has now been detained by the Tangerang District Attorney (Kejari). Bareskrim has confiscated several assets, including cars, land, buildings, and are still investigating other assets.

Regarding this case, the Financial Services Authority (OJK) plans to evaluate the internal control system of PT Bank Maybank Indonesia Tbk. OJK Public Relations and Logistics Commissioner Anto Prabowo appealed to Maybank to immediately conduct an investigation related to this case.
