Despite Experiencing Data Leaks, Capcom Successfully Books Record Profits In Q3 2021
GAMEFINITY.ID, Jakarta – Capcom has reported the highest profit for the end of the third quarter (Q3). On Thursday (28/1/2021), the Resident Evil publisher announced its financial performance for the nine months ended December 31, 2021. Capcom managed to record a 22.6 percent increase in net sales, with operating income up 32 percent to 24.3 billion. Yen (approximately Rp3.27 trillion) and ordinary income rose 28.8 percent to 24 billion Yen (Rp3.23 trillion).
Those fantastic numbers were driven by the strong performance of Capcom’s Digital Content business, especially due to the Monster Hunter and Resident Evil franchise games. Japanese analyst David Gibson said during the Q3 quarter Capcom sold around 300,000 units of Resident Evil 3 Remake, 600,000 units of Monster Hunter World Iceborne, 350,000 units of Resident Evil 2 Remake, 300,000 units of Resident Evil 7 and 400,000 units of Monster Hunter World.
The company claims that the current impact of COVID-19 is “negligible” and will not affect the planned release schedule. Capcom also claims that the financial impact of the data leak it suffered last November would be small.
Capcom has notified its shareholders that the company expects a nearly 20 percent increase in operating income during this fiscal year. Capcom also claims strong digital game sales from Resident Evil 3, and Monster Hunter Rise pre-orders.
Last week, the Japanese gaming company announced a revised forecast for the year ending March 31, 2021, with net sales expected to rise 8.2 percent and net profit expected to rise 16.7 percent. Capcom said the increase was due to success in proactively growing sales in its core Digital Content business.
“We’ve seen solid performance with the new Resident Evil 3 game, along with continued growth in games with long sales cycles, such as Monster Hunter World: Iceborne, which was released in the previous fiscal year,” Capcom said.
Monster Hunter Rise will be released exclusively for Nintendo Switch on March 26, 2021. Capcom recently released a demo of Monster Hunter Rise on the eShop. As for Resident Evil, Capcom has just announced the Resident Evil Village release date, which is May 7, 2021. RE8 will be released for the last and next generation consoles, as well as PC.
