Crash Bandicoot: On the Run, The Crashest Mobile Game by King

GAMEFINITY.ID, Jakarta – Since being announced last year, the mobile game which is planned to be released in March 2021, Crash Bandicoot: On the Run immediately sparked the curiosity of gamers, especially lovers of the Crash Bandicoot series. With the runner genre, the game by Swedish developer King is expected to bring a number of new things that Crash Bandicoot fans have never experienced in previous games.

“Crash Bandicoot has a rich universe with decades of workable material. This game also marks the 25th anniversary of Crash Bandicoot this year. Having the opportunity to create your own game in this universe is a career milestone for all involved,” Crash Bandicoot: On the Run creative chief Stephen Jarrett told PocketGamer.biz.

It is undeniable, Crash Bandicoot himself became one of the most beloved characters in game history. First appeared in 1996 as a platform game for the PlayStation console, Crash Bandicoot has evolved into other genres, ranging from racing (Crash Team Racing, Crash Nitro Kart, Crash Nitro Fueled), party (Crash Bash), to beat ’em up. (Crash on the Titans). Jarret himself is optimistic that his mobile game will be well received by Crash fans, as well as other gamers.

“This team has done a great job making a game honoring the history of this franchise in a way that really excites Crash fans. We’re also doing it in a way that will introduce Crash to a whole new generation of players around the world.”

Although historically, a number of mobile game adaptations of console games have failed to meet the expectations of fans of the console version of the game, King believes that Crash Bandicoot: On the Run will not “cram original (console) games into mobile phones”. Because, after all, mobile phones work differently from consoles, so the joy of playing on consoles is certainly different from mobile games.

According to King, the original Crash Bandicoot game actually helped inspire the modern version of the mobile runner game genre. King also emphasized that Crash Bandicoot: On the Run is not an endless runner.

“We designed the levels to give players a carefully crafted gameplay challenge that has a beginning and an end. This game is not a procedurally generated endurance contest. We want players to explore new worlds, fight against their favorite bosses, and have a clear goal as they try to run long runs to avoid crashing into something.”

Jarrett himself thanked Beenox and Toys for Bob, who helped King develop Crash Bandicoot: On the Run. Beenox itself is the developer of Crash Team Racing Nitro-Fuled, while Toys for Bob developed the last Crash Bandicoot game, Crash 4: It’s About Time.

“It’s not unusual for you to have two teams doing two different interpretations of one universe at the same time. We are working closely with them and the team at Activision to take advantage of that opportunity.”

One more thing, Stephen Jarrett emphasized that this mobile game will not follow the trend of other mobile games that provide in-game purchases through microtransactions. Players can play Crash On the Run in full without spending any money, although there are some skins that can be purchased in addition to Crash and Coco.

King, who was previously known as the developer of the mobile game Candy Crush, believes Crash Bandicoot: On the Run will be a great new chapter in the history of Crash Bandicoot. The game will be released for Android and iOS, with King not ruling out the possibility that the game will be released for Nintendo Switch in the future.

“We believe that when fans around the world play with the finished product, they will see it the same way we do. This game will expand the story of Crash and Coco going forward and introduce the characters to new players. If we manage to do it, we consider it a success.”
