Binus University Esports Team Wins the 2021 AXIS Menpora Esports Cup

GAMEFINITY.ID, Jakarta – The Grand Final of the Menpora Esports 2021 AXIS Cup which was held online on Saturday (3/10) and Sunday (4/10) ended successfully. The Binus University esports team finally came out as champions and took home the Menpora Cup trophy and Rp 50 million in coaching money. Binus University won the championship after defeating the Udayana University esports team in the last match. Meanwhile, SMA Institut Indonesia Semarang, won the third position. The total coaching money won by the winners in this championship reached Rp. 150 million.

With this title, the Binus University esports team got a contract as a brand ambassador from IESPL and Samsung. In addition to the championship trophy, the 2021 AXIS Menpora Esports Cup also awards the best player or most valueable player (MVP) and also top kill player. The MVP title was won by James Alexander from Binus University. Meanwhile, the top kill player was the player with the highest number of kills throughout the tournament, won by Erick Zen Redondo from Udayana University.

Menpora Esports Cup 2021 AXIS competed Mobile Legends: Bang Bang which is a MOBA genre game. The tournament organized by the Ministry of Youth and Sports and the Indonesia Esports Premiere League (IESPL) is specifically for junior high, high school, and college students. This championship is designed to be a place for them to compete and develop and become professional esports athletes.

Since the kick off of the tournament on August 17, this national-scale electronic sports competition has been participated by 3,141 esports teams or consists of 15,075 players. They compete to represent their respective schools or colleges. In the grand final, there were eight teams that advanced. In addition to the top three teams, the other five teams (in order) are Bogor Agricultural University, MAN 3 Palembang, SMAN 1 Bintan Utara, Telkom University Bandung, and Gunadarma University Jakarta.

Indonesian Minister of Youth and Sports Zainudin Amali was happy with the various achievements achieved during the 2021 AXIS Menpora Esports Cup tournament. Zainudin appreciated the players who had fought with the best ability to win the title. He hopes that this tournament can be a stepping stone for young players to become outstanding esports athletes for Indonesia in the future.

“Esports has grown rapidly and the fans are enormous. The Menpora Esports Cup was even attended by more than 15 thousand participants from various schools and universities throughout Indonesia. Through this tournament, we have also produced potential young athletes who will maintain the chain of Indonesian esports achievements. Let’s continue to support their future endeavors,” said Zainudin Amali, Monday (5/10).

“Congratulations to the winners. I am sure that you will continue to develop into outstanding athletes who make the nation proud. For players who have not succeeded, do not be discouraged. Your future is still long and there are still many opportunities. Keep practicing and keep studying diligently,” said the Minister of Youth and Sports.

Successfully winning and receiving appreciation from Menpora Zainudin Amali, the Binus University Esports Team admitted that they were proud to be the best of the thousands of esports teams that competed. With the capital as the champions of the 2021 AXIS Menpora Esports Cup, they are determined to continue to develop themselves so that they can enter the esports industry to become professional athletes.

The Binus University esports team consists of five people, namely Thomas Setyawan, James Alexander, Wilson Clarence Sutanto, Daniel, and Kristian Antonius. All of them are still students at Bina Nusantara University. Although the opportunity to become professional esports athletes has been wide open, they intend to continue to complete their education well.

Meanwhile, Giring Ganesha as the Head of Menpora Esports 2021 AXIS Cup Organizer said, with the abilities shown by the players during the tournament, it gave confidence that Indonesia would be able to continue to compete in the world esports arena.

“The 2021 AXIS Menpora Esports Cup is aimed at finding young players who can be the successors to Indonesia’s esports achievements. During the tournament we have seen their struggle to compete and bring out the best in their abilities. It is evident that our young players have enormous potential. I’m sure they have a bright future as esports athletes,” he said.

“On the other hand, we also appreciate the support from Menpora Mr. Zainudin Amali for esports. This Menpora Esports Cup is an initiative of him who wants Indonesia to continue to produce new talents and continue to achieve achievements in world esports championships,” Giring added.
