Animal Crossing: New Horizons Sold More Than Nintendo Switch in 2021

According to Nintendo’s latest financial report, New Horizons has sold 31.18 million units as of December 31, 2021. In comparison, the Nintendo Switch sold 27.3 million units during 2021. As noted by Niko Partners analyst Daniel Ahmad this impressive figure shows that about 39 percent of Nintendo Switch owners have purchased Animal Crossing.

This also means that New Horizons has cumulatively beaten its predecessor, Animal Crossing: New Leaf, by more than two times. New Leaf was previously the best-selling entry in the Animal Crossing series, which recorded cumulative sales of 12 million units.

Physically, Animal Crossing New Horizons was the second best-selling game in Europe last year, and the third best-selling game in the US. In the months since its release, Animal Crossing has become the second best-selling Nintendo Switch game to date, only behind Mario Kart 8 Deluxe (33.41 million), which still posted a fantastic sales of 4.42 million copies in the three months ended.
