Analysts Lower Cyberpunk 2077 Sales Projection Over Next 12 Months
The launch of CD Projekt Red’s most ambitious game (CDPR), Cyberpunk 2077 has been tainted with a number of problems experienced by gamers on the latest generation of consoles, PlayStation and Xbox One. This also has an impact on Cyberpunk 2077’s sales projections for the next 12 months.
Quoted from Bloomberg, the median 12-month sales forecast for Cyberpunk 2077 from nine analysts surveyed fell from 30 million pre-release copies to 25.6 million this week. Technical problems and negative response have resulted in CD Projekt’s stock price dropping by more than a third after the game was released, last December 10.
This also affected the 34 percent of the founder’s shares worth around 3 billion USD, which is said to have fallen by 1 billion USD, or around Rp. 14 trillion. In fact, at the time of the launch, CD Projekt claimed that Cyberpunk 2077 sold 8 million copies via pre-order alone, and was enough to cover the cost of game development, marketing and promotion costs.
This highly anticipated game was delayed three times. Although the PC version was mostly well appreciated despite the many bugs and glitches, the game’s performance on the latest generation of consoles received a lot of criticism from gamers and the media.
CD Projekt apologizes for the game’s disappointing performance on PS4 and Xbox One, and promises to improve the overall experience through future updates. They even offer a refund for gamers who don’t want to wait for the fix. Unfortunately, as previously reported by.ID, some gamers could not get a refund as promised by CDPR, because they did not meet the terms and conditions of the PlayStation and Xbox policies.
