A Youtuber Successfully Assembles a Gaming PC from Computer Waste
GAMEFINITY.ID, Salatiga – There’s no denying that assembling a PC in 2021 is a pretty bad idea. The skyrocketing price of PC hardware, the COVID-19 pandemic that hit and the lack of stock made it difficult for gamers to assemble their dream PC.
This PC hardware crisis has an impact on gamers, both those who want to assemble high-end gaming PCs and budget gaming PCs. Even gamers who only have minimal funds have to be patient to get their gaming PC at the right price.
Seeing the condition of PC hardware that is getting worse, one Youtuber named Alex or more often called LowSpecGamer trying to find an alternative way for budget gamers to get their gaming PC.
Alex then found that the increasing amount of electronic waste or E-Waste could be used to assemble a PC with a very low budget.
First he got a PC that was thrown away because the hardware inside was too old. But apparently the discarded PC can still work normally.
Then Alex determines which parts can still be used and which ones must be replaced. He decided that the Motherboard, RAM, Hard Disk, PSU and Case could still be used. So that leaves the CPU and GPU that must be replaced because they are too old.
In the search for CPUs, Alex found it difficult to find a CPU that matched the socket of his discarded PC Motherboard. So he decided to buy a recycled Intel Xeon E3-1220 v2 server CPU from AliExpress for 20 Euros. On AliExpress he also bought 4GB RAM for 10 Euros.
Then for GPU problems, Alex managed to get a used AMD Radeon 5850 GPU which the owner will throw away so he doesn’t have to buy a GPU either.
After all the components were collected, Alex began to install the parts into his discarded PC. Finally, his trash PC has been successfully transformed into a Budget PC Gaming.
Then how about the performance? Alex tried to test the performance through benchmarking games Doom Eternal and Resident Evil Village. But unfortunately the Radeon 5850 that he uses does not support Vulkan and DirectX 12.
So in the end Alex used CS:GO and Apex Legends as benchmarks. The result? You could say it’s quite satisfying. In CS:GO Alex managed to get 100 FPS on low settings.
And for Apex Legends it gets around 30fps at low settings too. It’s quite surprising considering that Alex also does a livestream on his Twitch channel while playing Apex Legends.
At the end of the video Alex reveals that even though the performance of his trash PC is not good, he can still enjoy playing Apex Legends with his friends.
Alex hopes that low-budget gamers can be inspired to use computer waste to save money while reducing electronic waste that accumulates.
