"PlayStation 5" will use AMD's next-generation Ryzen and Radeon chips
The giant chipmaker, Advanced Micro Devices (AMD), has won an important competition with its competitors to dominate the gaming market in the future. They managed to convince SONY to use their product for a future console that they believed to be called “PlayStation 5”.
AMD officially announced this at the Computex 2021 main event which took place at the Taipei International Convention Center (TICC) on Monday (27/5/2021).
At the event, AMD said that it was trusted by SONY to be the provider of chips that would be embedded in the PlayStation 5 (PS5).
Later, the PS5 will only use chips from AMD, namely the 7nm Radeon “Navi” GPU and Ryzen Zen 2 processor inside.
Unlike the PlayStation 4, the PS5 will not use a semi-custom processor and graphics solution. SONY will still be adding its own optimizations, but the hardware will be very similar to what AMD will offer in the market.
It’s also interesting to note that Microsoft’s Xbox One X, which is a big competitor to PlayStation, also uses hardware from AMD. Thus, it can be said that AMD will dominate the use of chips in the world of gaming consoles in the future.
The latest generation of Ryzen processors has now made headlines and everything about AMD’s Radeon “Navi” is brand new.
The chip will feature an architecture called Radeon DNA (RDNA) that promises a slimmer graphics pipeline that ensures higher Performance-per-Clock delivery, while keeping power usage at an all-time low.
AMD did not explain the specifications about the type of Radeon “Navi” and Ryzen that will be embedded in the PS5. Chances are, there will be more details in the AMD E3 live broadcast which will air on June 11, 2021 at 05:00 WIB.
