36 States of the United States Sue Google Over Play Store Surcharge

GAMEFINITY.ID, SalatigaLast week, attorneys from 36 US states filed antitrust lawsuits against Google .

The lawsuit focuses on Google surcharges of up to 30%, accusing Google of monopolizing and using its influence on the Android market to force developers and consumers to pay unreasonable additional fees.

This lawsuit was filed by various states such as California, New York, Arizona, North Carolina, Florida, Kentucky, Minnesota, and other states.

Play Store commissions of 30% are charged to app developers, and then pass those fees on to consumers who buy apps or make purchases such as mobile games.

The 36 states allege that Google’s anti-competitive policies have robbed developers of profits and raised prices on consumers.

“To collect and maintain these extraordinary commissions, Google has used anti-competitive tactics to reduce and disincentive competition in Android app distribution,”

“Google has not only targeted potentially competitive app stores, but has also ensured that app developers themselves have no reasonable choice but to distribute their apps through the Google Play Store.”

As of this writing, it is still unclear how Google will respond to these demands. At the same time, the time and date of the trial has not been announced.
