Tips for cleaning and caring for camera tripods that are often used for long exposure photos
mrfdn – A tripod is a device used to hold the camera steady. It has three height-adjustable legs. The legs will support the camera remains stable during shooting.
Tripods are commonly used by photographers when they want to take photos for a long time in a certain place.
As is usually done by landscape photographers. Tripod is one of the 3 must-have camera equipment. To find out the other 2, please read this article.
Tripods have the dirtiest task, which is in direct contact with soil, mud, water, and so on.
Therefore, the tripod must have its own treadment to keep it maintained.
Here are some things to consider to maintain the stability of our tripod
1. Always wash after hunting landscape photos
Tripods have a heavy load. Its job is to keep the camera steady. Often times we place our tripods on dirty ground, even in mud or sea water.
Did you know that sea water has a very fast content that makes things corrode?
Therefore, after every hunting for landscape photos, especially dirty ones like the one above, always wash them with fresh water. At least in the dirtiest part earlier.
If at the time of going to wash it but do not find fresh water, just remove the sand that is attached to the legs of the tripod. Later when you get home, immediately wash or soak the tripod in fresh water, if it gets really dirty, you can add detergent to remove the dirt.
After that drain and dry your tripod until it is completely dry.
If you have a tripod with carbon fiber material, you also have to keep it clean. So that the performance remains stable.
3. Diligently provide lubricant on the swaying part
After cleaning the tripod, of course the parts that are often moved are the parts that are prone to damage.
I once had an aluminum tripod, which broke because the part was corroded by use in extreme terrain.
Therefore, to prevent the tripod from being damaged, you should often spray lubricating fluid such as wd-40 on that part. This will keep your tripod in good shape.
This is a form of our care in maintaining our own property.
2. Store in a special tripod bag
Finally, always keep your tripod in a tripod bag. Don’t let your tripod get dusty. With a tripod bag you can store it better. Also when carrying a tripod into the field, having a separate bag makes it easier than having to carry a tripod without a bag.
This is an explanation of how to clean and maintain a tripod. Hopefully this article is useful. 🙂
