The Bucharest Major Group Stage: VJG.Thunder Advance to Playoffs

After a series of matches best of one which lasts for four days, Major . group phase Dota 2 The Bucharest Major is finally over. Eight of the 16 teams are eligible to advance to the round playoffs to compete for the main prize, which is US $ 500,000 (approximately Rp. 6.8 billion) and 750 Dota 2 Pro Circuit points.

The group stage of this Major tournament uses a unique format, namely Switzerland, and each match takes place in a format best of one. Each team will be paired with an opponent who has the same winning and losing record in each round. The team that has three wins will qualify for the round playoffs, while the team that bagged three defeats was declared eliminated from the tournament.

In this group stage, surprises have occurred since day one. Vici Gaming and Virtus.Pro who were finalists of ESL One Katowice 2021 lost, respectively to VGJ.Thunder and OpTic Gaming.

Although it rarely appears in Major or Minor tournaments, VGJ.Thunder looks solid. They managed to beat Team Secret on the second day. They were perched with a score of 2-0 with Evil Geniuses who on the second day managed to beat Team Liquid in a very fierce match. Meanwhile Vici Gaming once again had to suffer an unexpected defeat, this time to the South American team Pain Gaming.

After two wins, VGJ.Thunder and Evil Geniuses managed to secure a ticket to the round playoffs after picking up victory on the third day. Mineski and Vici Gaming who were almost eliminated survived after defeating Vega Squadron and LFY, respectively. On the other hand, Team Liquid again lost to a North American team, this time from Complexity. With that result Team Liquid had to win the two remaining matches on the fourth day.

On the fourth day, Newbee, Virtus.Pro, and Team Secret overtook Evil Geniuses after winning their first match on the fourth day. Meanwhile Team Liquid, OG, and Na’Vi get one more chance to advance to the round playoffs. Met with OG, Team Liquid won and qualified for playoffs, along with OpTic Gaming who beat Complexity, and TNC who beat Na’Vi.

Playoff Draw: Evil Geniuses Again Meets Team Liquid

Half playoffs The Bucharest Major will start on March 9, 2021 tomorrow. The remaining eight teams will compete in the format single elimination best of three, then best of five especially in the finals.

The following is matchup quarter-finals for the round playoffs tomorrow.

If seen from bracket above, each match looks like it will be exciting, especially considering that several teams have met in the group phase and competed fiercely. But if the group phase is just best of one, results in playoffs it may be different because it has the format best of three.
