PUBG Corp withdraws copyright lawsuit against Fortnite
Last month PUBG Corp. filed a copyright lawsuit against Fortnite developer Epic Games, and today the developer PlayerUnknown’s Battlegrounds surprisingly dropped their copyright lawsuit against the creators of Fortnite.
According to a recent Bloomberg report, PUBG Corp. sent a letter of withdrawal to Epic Games’ legal team last Monday. The case is now officially closed, but it is not clear why PUBG Corp ended its legal proceedings or whether there has been a settlement between the two parties.
As we reported last month, Korea-based PUBG Corp. brought the case to the Seoul Central District Court for alleged copyright infringement, but the details of the exact reasons for the lawsuit are unknown. PUBG developers once said they were “concerned that Fortnite might replicate the experience PUBG is known for.”

It is unclear whether this will actually affect the relationship between the two companies. Because PUBG itself uses technology Unreal Engine 4 which is the technology used also in the game Fortnite and even made by Epic Games. Plus, both Bluehole and Epic Games are both half-owned by Chinese conglomerate Tencent. It is even reported that Tencent is increasing their investment in PUBG by up to 10%.

Separately, after Tencent officially got the PUBG license. They immediately moved to take their first legal step to NetEase, the creator of Rules of Survival, Knives Out, which is still ongoing.
