Lenovo Ideapad Duet 3 10IGL5 review
If you are not a gamer and need a laptop that is thin, light and very practical to work with, we think this 2 in 1 laptop from Lenovo can be a solution for your dark work needs.
In addition, this laptop is very minimalist and can be converted into a tablet function. You can have online meetings or video calls with your friends anywhere, even while lying on the bed. Before discussing this laptop further, here are the specifications.
Specification
Design
With a plain gray color that covers the entire body, Lenovo makes this laptop look quite cool and minimalist. Moreover, this laptop is a a convertible 2-in-1 laptop with a detachable keyboard.
The body is made of polycarbonate and the stand is made of metal. The stand itself can be stretched up to 130 degrees. Then for the camera, this laptop already has 2 cameras, 1 on the screen and the other behind the screen.
Dimension
This laptop has dimensions of 25.3cm long, 16.6cm wide and only 0.99cm thick. As for the keyboard, it has a thickness of only 0.6cm. As for the weight, this laptop weighs only 593 grams for the tablet, 273 grams for the keyboard and 199 grams for the charger unit.
The total weight of all of them is only about 1 kilogram. It is perfect for those of you who like to carry a laptop for traveling but don’t want to carry a large backpack.
Screen
This laptop has a screen size of 10.3 inches. The panel used is an IPS panel made by AUO, the AUO17D8 series, which has a screen resolution of 1920 x 1200 Pixels with an Aspect Ratio of 16:10. The surface of the screen is glossy type and of course it supports a touchscreen of up to 10 fingers.
When we calibrated with spyder, this screen has 97% sRGB, 68% NTSC and 73% Adobe RGB. The color gamut results are quite high, so you will definitely be comfortable using this laptop for light editing such as photo editing or use for entertainment.
Oh yes, this laptop also supports a stylus. But not provided in the sales package. All styluses that support the Microsoft pen protocol can be used on this laptop.
Keyboard
The keyboard design on this laptop still uses the typical Lenovo IdeaPad design. However, there has been a change in the layout of the Function keys which are now integrated with the number keys.
This keyboard doesn’t only work if it’s attached to the tablet. However, this keyboard also has Bluetooth connectivity. The button to turn on the bluetooth is located on the right side of the keyboard. So, if you are lazy, you can place the tablet near a large screen using HDMI to type C and you can browse or type while sitting on the sofa.
Touchpad
The touchpad on this laptop looks plain without a dedicated button, besides that, the touchpad size is also quite wide for a 2 in 1 laptop. The feel of using the touchpad is very comfortable and responsive. The left and right click buttons feel soft when used. The touchpad also supports Windows precision drivers which can be used for multi gestures with support for up to four fingers.
Webcam
This laptop has 2 cameras on the front and back of the screen. The front camera can record videos with a maximum aspect ratio of 16:9 with 720p resolution frame rate 30 FPS. As for the rear camera, it can record videos with a maximum aspect ratio of 16:9 with 1080p resolution with a frame rate of 30fps.
For the image results, you can say it’s enough to use online meetings or video calls if you have enough light in the room. But it can’t be said to be satisfactory, for even better results, you can use a more professional webcam.
I/O Port
Because this is a 2 in 1 laptop that can be used as a tablet. This laptop has a port that is simple and few. On the left side there is combo jack audio port, MicroSD slot up to 128GB, Two USB-C 3.2 Gen 1 which already supports Power Delivery 3.0 and DisplayPort 1.2. Lali di right side contains only tpower button and tVolume up/down button.
Battery
Lenovo embeds a battery with a capacity of 30 Wh (Watt Hour). To find out how long the battery lasts, we did a test using PCMark 10 Modern office software. We also activate the mode power saving, and the LCD brightness is set to the 50% level.
Based on the tests we did, this laptop was able to last for 7 hours and 30 minutes. The results are quite satisfying, if you are out of the house and forget to bring an adapter, then battery life like this can still be relied on for such uses office, browsing, and online meetings.
Storage
Lenovo provides eMMC 5.1 flash memory with a capacity of 256GB on notebook this. speed read & write similar to 2 times faster than a hard disk which is in the range of 250s for writing speeds and 220s for reading speeds. But, for just light data processing and opening applications, of course the performance of eMMC is better when compared to hard disks. although we hope this laptop actually uses an nvme SSD.
Audio
This laptop uses stereo speakers that are placed at the top of the left and right sides of the laptop. If in tablet mode, the speakers are on top and bottom of the tablet. The resulting sound quality is clear enough to be used to watch movies or listen to music.
Upgradeability
This Lenovo Idepad Duet 3 laptop has no upgrade option at all. On the RAM side there is no additional slot, and the default RAM cannot be replaced because it is already embedded in the board.
For storage also can not be replaced. because this laptop uses eMMC flash memory type storage as is usually used on smartphones. You can add storage up to 128GB by buying an additional microSD card.
Temperature
Although this 2 in 1 laptop uses a passive cooler, this cooler is able to handle the heat on this laptop well. We proved it by doing a stress test using AIDA64 to get the highest temperature. And as a result, for 15 minutes the highest temperature reached 66 degrees Celsius and was stable at 61 degrees Celsius.
Moreover, because this laptop is a 2 in 1 laptop, you will not feel hot when using tablet or laptop mode. Because, when using a tablet, your hands are on the left and right, while the heat is centered on the center of the tablet.
Performance
Intel Pentium Silver N5030 is a Quad-core processor built on the Gemini Lake architecture. This processor is not equipped with Hyper-Threading and Turbo Boost. So the performance is not for running heavy applications.
In the benchmarks we run, Cinebench R15 scores 236 pts for multi-core and 88 pts for single-core. This score is indeed low because of the Pentium Silver N5030. So again we emphasize that this laptop is more suitable for running Office-based applications, accessing the internet with popular browsers, or playing high-resolution music and video files.
Then what about gaming performance? You should undo your intention to play games on this laptop. As an illustration, our tests on fairly light esports games, namely CS:GO only got 8 fps and Dota 2 only 17 fps.
Conclusion
This Lenovo Ideapad Duet 3 is a cheap 2 in 1 convertible laptop that is suitable for those of you who like watching movies, browsing, online meetings and running office-based applications.
This laptop is less comfortable if you use it on your lap. Because the keyboard has Bluetooth connectivity, it’s more convenient if you place the tablet on the table, and you sit on your lap while sitting comfortably on the sofa.
Then, because this laptop only provides two USB Type C ports for connectivity. We suggest you to have a usb type c hub so you can connect it with various devices.
About the price, this laptop is priced at Rp7,499,000 just. Enough affordable for students and office workers who need a laptop that is light, thin and at the same time can be used as a tablet for daily use. For entertainment, it’s actually really cool if you connect it to a 55 / 65 inch TV with an HDMI cable.
