How to Edit Videos for Beginners
In this article, the author will only review video editing tutorials with the intention of adding text and special effects to each part of the video. Immediately, to shorten it, we will edit the existing video, of course by using the Import facility that has been provided. For steps – how to edit videos with Movie Maker, you can see below:
1. First of course you open and run Windows Movie Maker (download here). Below is the initial view of Windows Movie Maker on the portable version that we use. There is a slight difference but in terms of the quality of how it works, it is certainly not inferior to the version that has been installed.
2. Because it uses an existing video, you only need to enter or commonly referred to as Import videos which will be edited into the Windows Movie Maker workspace. Wait for a moment.
3. After the Import video process is complete you can see on the working screen. Usually the video display is the same as in general, but in the version we use it is divided into several parts according to the duration and size.
4. You can see the menu Edit Movie which is located to the right of the display and below the menu Video Capture. In the Edit Movie menu you can see various video editing options.
5. But you must know that editing is done on the Timeline, not on the Windows Movie Maker work screen. Therefore, previously drag partly or completely the video that is on the Collections toward Timeline then wait a while.
6. The first is to add text to the video. Once placed in the Timeline you can see the video is split into several parts according to the provisions of Windows Movie Maker. It aims to make it easier for editing to be done only in certain parts.
7. Select one or more parts of the video that you want to enter text or you can also click on the time range in the Timeline then select Make Titles or Credits.
8. Once clicked, several options will appear to determine the placement of text or titles. You can choose as you wish.
- title at the beginning: text at the beginning of the video
- title before the selected clip: text before clip
- title on the selected clip: text on the selected clip
- title after the selected clip: text after clip
- credits at the end: text at the end of the video
9. After that, write the text as you wish and also set the size, color and others by clicking the menu on the More Options. After it feels right click Done, add title to movie.
10. The second is to add effects to the video. Similarly, in adding text you can select certain parts in the text Timeline then click View Video Effects.
11. After that you will be presented with your choice of effects in Windows Movie Maker. You can choose one or several as you wish. But here the placement of the effect is not the same as in the previous text. Drag one of the effects to the part of the video in the Timeline.
12. Don’t forget to click Publish or Save to My Computer to save your edited video file.
That’s how to edit videos using a movie maker easily and suitable for beginners. Although the scope of its editing features is not as complete as Adobe Premiere, for simple editing purposes, we think Movie Maker is more than enough. Okay, hopefully useful and see you again in the next article!
