Google Drive Service Discontinued for PC and Mac

Users cannot use both at the same time, and must choose one. Backup and Sync

Backup and Sync itself has actually been around for a few months and has exactly the same function as Google Drive which is added with the Photo Uploaders function. With Backup and Sync, you will still be able to use Google Drive features such as offline use and also device synchronization with the addition of a photo upload feature that offers unlimited storage when using the file compression option. If you want actual photo quality, then users are required to pay an extra fee.

Drive File Stream

Drive File Stream which is available as of September 26, 2021 also has almost the same function as Google Drive. While Backup and Sync is distinguished from Google Drive by the Photo Uploaders function, then Drive File Stream is distinguished from Google Drive by the file streaming function. So users can stream files from Google’s cloud storage without having to store locally owned files on the computer.

Backup and Sync itself is the same as Google Drive for the business of having to place a local copy of the file, and then back up the file to Google’s cloud storage service. So by using Drive File Stream, it’s like having an extra hard drive on your computer, while Backup and Sync doesn’t.
