Gigabyte P55W V6 Review – Nvidia Pascal Mid-Series First Break
The Gigabyte P55 is not at all popular in the Indonesian gaming laptop market as of this writing. Previously, only P34, P35, P25 and P27 had tasted the Indonesian market. Since the release of Datascript, Gigabyte has not found a suitable partner to carry their big name, especially for laptop products with gaming specifications. Including one of them, the Gigabyte P55 V6 which we will review this time.
Since last week (16/08), when Nvidia introduced the Geforce GTX 10 for notebook and Ultra mobile PC products, it was reported that it had worried PC component manufacturers, especially Motherboards. How come. “SUPPORTED”, the performance offered by the Geforce GTX 10 notebook version is no different from the Desktop version. First, Nvidia no longer distinguishes the naming of their gaming graphics chip SKU. No more “M” code at the end of the SKU number. If the specifications of the two platforms are laid out, it doesn’t indicate a difference at all. Except for TDP which until now has not been officially published by Nvidia. For a feature review of the Geforce GTX 10 family, you can see the full version here.
Gigabyte P55 . Design and Build Quality
Back to the laptop. Gigabyte through the P55 series, looks to target enthusiastic gamers who play games with high flying hours. A masculine barebones design that can’t be said to be thin, providing the benefits of a capable air circulation space. But for some reason, the manufacturer has not considered the use of dual fans for this Gigabyte P55 series. Black matte may have almost become the hallmark of Gigabyte’s gaming laptop products. And specifically for the P55 series, almost 95% of the barebones surface is flushed with this matte black color. Usually this kind of finishing becomes a fingerprint magnet. But this doesn’t really apply to the P55 series, although it can still be seen if you look closely.
To make the gaming aura rise to the surface, Gigabyte formed several areas on the P55 case with curves and aerodynamic textures. For more details, you can watch the preview video of the Gigabyte P55W V6 on our Youtube channel.
Gigabyte P55W V6 Spesifikasi Specifications
The GTX 1060 is indeed the lowest graphics chip in the notebook version of the GeForce GTX 10. But seeing its performance that can match a Geforce GTX980M, it is very, very worthy to be made the main merchandise of this Gigabyte P55W V6. Simply combined with a quad core CPU Intel core i7 6700HQ, 16GB dual channel RAM, and SSD performance, you can get the performance of a flagship gaming laptop that was previously sold at 30 million rupiah.
Other supporting hardware cannot be underestimated either. For example AHVA matte panels full HD resolution, WiFi AC from Intel 8260, and of course the graphics chip Nvidia GeForce GTX 1060 with capacity VRAM 6GB GDDR5. For other components, pemmzchanel considers nothing significant yet.
Indicators, Ports & Connectivity
The position of the indicator is right under the touchpad. But the position of the led is facing the user which means it is not directly accessible from the workstation surface. For connectivity points, pemmzchannel scores are in the average category. In terms of technology updates, the Gigabyte P55W V6 is not equipped with thunderbolt and does not even include DsiplayPort. You are only offered HDMI 2.0 which luckily has capable for output display up to 4K resolution. It’s just the placement that seems to make you uncomfortable if you often use it for presentations at a narrow table. The same thing happened to the LAN port. Fortunately, 3 USB 3.0 ports and a USB 3.1 type C port are distributed quite well on the left and right of the notebook.
For the webcam, the Gigabyte P55W V6 is equipped with a camera made by chicony with HD resolution. The result? yes, it is more than enough to keep you video chat fun. For the SD Card, Gigabyte places it on the front side without any pointers on the surface of the workstation. So you need to grope for a while to find its position.
Display Panel
A closer look, a typical panel LG-Philips LP156WF4 on the Gigabyte P55W V6 this is not the “crispy” type of IPS panel. He tends to rely on the quality of the black panel, which is the hallmark of Gigabyte laptops and some Asus ROGs. But supported by the neatness in the distribution of brightness on each surface, the image quality that reaches the user’s eyes becomes very comfortable. For contrast, it’s not the best, but it’s still better than the Samsung panels used by some Xenom or Clevo laptop products. For the highest level of comfort, according to pemmzchannel, it’s a good idea to always use brightness at level 100.
Upgrade Options
For the 15.6-inch barebones class, this point is also in the average category according to pemmzchannel. All slots require you to replace, not add. For example, the two RAM slots in the highest SKU have only been filled with two 8GB DDR4 chips. To make it 32GB, you have to remove the two 8GB chips. Likewise for storage, each of which has been plugged in hardware since it was new. As for the screen options, they are separated by SKUs. Which means, for those of you P55 users with a 1080p panel, you may have to change units to get a 3K panel.
Features – More Advance
As part of the P series, the features offered by the Gigabyte P55W V6 are similar to eleven twelve with the P series and even with the Aero 14 and Aorus. Most helpful of course Gigabyte Smart Manager in which you can find various shortcuts for hardware and feature settings. Especially the features the most advanced fan speed setting compared to other brands. Because on Gigabyte laptops, we can adjust the percentage of fan rotation in more detail. Another feature that is no less interesting is Smart Updates. With this feature, users don’t need to go to the official website just to check whether the latest drivers are available or not.
Performance – Superior GTX 10
This is what you can’t skip. Especially those who have been waiting for how big the difference in performance offered by Pascal compared to Maxwell. Pemmzchannel admits, the performance of this notebook version of Pascal is indeed extraordinary. From the database we have, the performance (GPU) has increased by almost 40% more than the Geforce GTX960M. You can see in almost all synthetic benchmark tests. GPU scores close to Geforce GTX980M and beat
Even in gaming testing, it gives the same indication. Apart from our subscription gaming software, pemmzchannel also performs testing using the latest demanding 3D games. For example, The Witcher III which scored an average of 65 FPS at 1080p high settings and or Assassin’s Creed Syndicate which was able to swing smoothly with an average of 70 FPS.
Conclusion
The Gigabyte P55W V6 fulfills all the requirements to win the hearts of mobile PC gamers in the country. A more masculine design, super sensational nvidia pascal performance, excellent display quality and features, some of which are more advanced than other brands, deserve to be “consider” by distributors of other brands. There is no ivory that is not cracked, and that goes for the Gigabyte P55W. What is less than optimal may be on the handling side, which we have explained above. Including ports and connectivity that is less than the maximum.
Well, at a price of 25 million for the SKU that we are reviewing, you will get the performance of a gaming laptop equivalent to the Geforce GTX980M in a more compact and masculine form typical of Gigabyte. For after sales, no need to worry. Because for all Gigabyte notebook products, covered for 2 years warranty. And pemmz is the official Gigabyte notebook service center for the Indonesian region.
