Galaxy Battles 2021 Threatened to Fail to Organize
In recent years, Philippine eSports organizers have become an important part of the DotA Pro Circuit. This is thanks to the successful implementation in the country in the last 2 years. ESL One Manila, the Manila Masters, as well as the Manila Major were successfully held. Previous success has made eSports in the Philippines trusted to host the 2021 Galaxy Battles tournament.
However, yet to be held, Galaxy Battles 2021 is getting bad news because this tournament is in danger of failing to be held. Valve with a mature decision has decided that this tournament will not be sponsored by them, after the local government imposed regulations that Valve did not like.
The Games and Amusement Board (GAB) as the government organization that oversees sports and regulates competitions in the Philippines has stated that eSports is in their realm. Therefore must follow their rules. Every eSports athlete, like any other sport, must have a license issued by the GAB in order to compete in the Philippines.
Valve considered the decision unreasonable, thus withdrawing its sponsor. Thus, the status of the Major Galaxy Battles 2021 tournament is revoked and is not included in the DotA Pro Circuit. Victory in this tournament did not result in an important point for the MOBA DotA 2 pro games team to be able to compete in The International 8.
“We have made the decision to cancel the main appointment for the tournament, said Valve in a post released on the official Dota 2 website.
“This decision is based on what we feel is an unreasonable violation of the privacy of the players of the pro DotA 2 team, which is a condition in order to enter this country,” added Valve.
Valve didn’t specify “the offenses they deemed unreasonable”, but some members of the gaming community thought it was unreasonable and privacy-invading to refer to drug and drug testing. The estimate is based on one of the conditions for obtaining a GAB license is to pass a drug and drug test.
Galaxy Battles II Emerging Worlds itself has been scheduled to be held on January 15-19 2021, at the Philippine Arena, Bulacan province. Even without financial support and other benefits from Valve, Galaxy Battles II Emerging Worlds is still allowed to be held until it’s finished.
Prior to this event, Virtus Pro had withdrawn from this event. With Valve’s decision, it is feared that many teams who have been invited to compete in Galaxy Battles II Emerging Worlds will resign. If this happens, Galaxy Battles II Emerging Worlds will fail to take place.

Sixteen teams are planned to compete for a total prize pool of $500,000 USD. Previously, this international tournament was part of the Dota Pro Circuit. However, the Major status in this tournament was removed by Valve on January 4.

While Galaxy Battles 2021 was hosted by Fallout Gaming and Purpose Win, its predecessor was hosted by NeoTV, Syber, Fallout Gaming and Purpose Win. Unlike the second series, this tournament only participated in 8 teams, each of which was divided into four invited teams, and four teams that won the qualifiers. DotA Pro Circuit is a tournament recognized by Valve which is divided into 2 categories of international tournaments, namely Major and Minor based on the total number of prizes awarded. In addition to being recognized, these tournaments are assisted by Valve’s presence, both with some funding and also organizing.
