Round 2 Upper Bracket

Team Liquid faced OpTic Gaming who were not afraid of the presence of the defending champion. Liquid from Europe has kept its squad intact for more than a year and a half, which is a very long time for an eSports team.
They play perfectly with each other, precision and combos, and well-timed rotations. Team Liquid’s game is like a machine with good oil, their playing performance is smooth and reliable. The last take of the Alchemist hero in the first round of Bo3 (Best of 3) made Team Liquid able to level OpTic Gaming in less than 30 minutes. OpTic originating from North America is unable to withstand the Alchemist’s too much damage.

In the second half of Bo3 the hero selection decision at the time of the draft is balanced. However, in the second match Team Liquid showed their class as the defending champions who were able to exploit the chosen hero to the fullest, and dominate the lane. Very clean execution, and perfect play saw Liquid win the second half which made the match end 2-0. That way, Liquid was forced to drop into the Lower Bracket.

The second match of the upper bracket featured Virtus.Pro against PSG.LGD. Virtus.Pro’s valor in the DotA 2 circuit for the 2021-2021 season was able to frighten many teams before competing, but not PSG.LGD. With a calm and relaxed style of play, PSG.LGD was able to steal the first half from Virtus.Pro.

Despite being calm and relaxed, PSG.LGD was able to squeeze Virtus.Pro all over the map in the early stages, thus dominating the lane. Virtus.Pro had turned things around by putting up a hard fight, but it didn’t produce good results because PSG.LGD turned things around again. In the second half, PSG.LGD’s game was even better, and was able to make Virtus.Pro not put up any significant resistance. The score ended in a win for PSG.LGD with a score of 2-0. Virtus.Pro, the leader of the DotA 2 Circuit for the 2021-2021 season, was forced to be willing to play in the lower bracket.
Round 1 Lower Bracket
As in the upper bracket matches, from the four lower bracket matches played on the first day of the TI8 event, there were 3 surprises. The first lower bracket match was one of them. This match is a duel between Fnatic and Serenity. With the Bo1 (best of 1) system, Fnatic has not been able to match Serenity’s compactness, so they have to lose and lift their suitcase.
In fact, Fnatic brings players with big names, such as EternalEnvy, and Universe, unlike Serenity whose players are not yet internationally renowned. However, they were unable to do much in the match on the first day of playing The International 2021 event. The reason is because his team often makes mistakes. Serenity’s victory brought them to meet OpTic Gaming in the second round of the lower bracket.
The second lower bracket match featuring TNC against Mineski was no surprise. In this match, TNC, which had lost to Mineski, was forced to submit. Even so, throughout the game, TNC is almost always dominated by the cool game Earth Spirit played by TIMS, and Tiny played by Armel.
Mineski was forced to be the underdog for most of the game, until it came to a point where TNC made a fatal mistake as the two teams fought at the end of the game. Nana who plays Shadow Fiend is able to turn things around via rune double damage taken. After this victory, Mineski met Virtus.Pro in round 2 of the Lower Bracket.
The surprise in the lower bracket round 1 happened again in the third match between Newbee and Winstrike. Newbee who was seeded because he received a direct invitation to The International 2021, had to be willing to leave the international tournament thanks to the slick game of the qualifying team from CIS, Winstrike. With the aggressive game of the CIS team, Newbee was overwhelmed and unable to advance to the next match.

The fourth match of the lower bracket presented a surprise as well as in the first and third matches. In this match, the VGJ.Thunder team who received a direct invitation to The International 8 had to be willing to go home from their brother Vici Gaming who was only a qualifying team from China. The maturity of the game, strategy, and draft of the players was shown against VGJ.Thunder which made Vici Gaming step into round 2.
