Discord Acquisition Talks By Microsoft Deadlocked

NESABAMEDIA.COMDiscord, a video game-based chat app service, has hit a stalemate in acquisition talks with Microsoft, several major media outlets have reported. Discord is likely to decide to do an Initial Public Offering (IPO) or go public on a stock exchange, after failing in the acquisition talks.

The news apparently had an impact on Microsoft’s stock price, where in the last trading the Redmond-based company’s stock price decreased by 0.4 percent.

It was reported that the reason behind the failure of the Discord acquisition process by Microsoft was due to a price that did not find an agreement point. Microsoft is said to have spent more than USD 10 billion to be able to buy Discord.

That said, the price is also being offered Discord to other potential buyers. Discord itself is also known to be in serious and in-depth discussions with Epic Games and Amazon.

Meanwhile, the reason Microsoft intends to acquire Discord is because they want to develop their gaming services, and other paid services that are focused on business needs. In an effort to realize this plan, Microsoft was previously rumored to want to acquire the social media application Tik Tok and was last known to have expressed interest in Pinterest.

Furthermore, the target of Microsoft’s acquisition is a service that can connect the community of their existing users, such as Xbox. Microsoft’s own Xbox business has also gone through some development, in terms of the subscription services they have provided as part of their Game Pass offering.

Discord is also known for their free service that allows gamers to communicate with each other using video, voice and text. During the pandemic, services from companies from San Francisco also began to experience a wider market expansion, which is now not only used by gamers, but also other communities that need a place to gather virtually.

It is known, Discord has been able to reach the number of monthly users of more than 140 million people and has developed as a communication tool as a place to talk to each other rather than just being a gaming-centric platform.
