Description of Breed (Race) in Biomutant

Breeds or Races in Biomutant are similar to races in other RPGs. Each breed comes with its own attributes that play an important role in your playstyle. While all breeds can use weapons and skills in the game, some are better suited to certain skills than others.

Before creating a character, take your time to find out all the available races and the advantages they bring. From Primal, Dumdon, to Murgel we will explain in this Biomutant guide. If you’re curious, just scroll down.

1. Primal: Agile Breed

This agile class makes many advantages to increase Critical Chance and Energy Regen faster. Primal characters will suffer a reduction in most other stats, though are a decent breed for players looking for a fast paced build.

  • Big drop for Melee Damage
  • Moderate decline for Health.
  • Moderate decline for Ki Energy
  • Small drop for Armor
  • Moderate upgrade for Energy Regen
  • Upgrade to Critical Chance

Although the melee build opportunities are slightly smaller, Primal characters can still get tremendous success with Ranged Weapon builds. For that, Dead-Eye and Commando classes are the right choices.

2. Dumdon: Breed Melee

Despite his name, Dumdon wasn’t that stupid. They may not be intelligent, but bear in mind that they are still a solid choice for an intelligence-based class. Because basically their real strength is Melee Damage.

  • Moderate drop for Energy Regen
  • Decreased critical chance
  • Big increase for Melee Damage
  • Big improvement for Health
  • Moderate increase in Ki Energy
  • Minor improvements to Armor

Saboteurs are a great fit for Dumdon, although they’re a very balanced breed that fits most builds.

3. Rex: Balanced Breed

If you lack PD with your preferred playing style, Rex is arguably the best choice for you. Jack of all trades isn’t great in any way, but it’s not too bad either. What this means is, you will lose a little Melee Damage, but you will get a little Power and Ki Energy.

  • Big drop in Melee Damage
  • Big improvement in Health
  • Moderate increase in Ki Energy
  • Minor increase in Power

As a well rounded breed, most classes are suitable for the Rex breed. The only one you might want to mention is Saboteur, due to its reliance on melee skills.

4. Hyla: Breed Tank

Hyla is a regeneratively developed anthropomorphic breed. Hybrids with gene mutations make them very tough and resistant.

  • Moderate decline for Ki Energy
  • Small drop for Power
  • Reduces Critical Chance
  • Moderate upgrade for Armor
  • Minor improvements to Health

Thanks to her increased resistance, Hyla is perfect for melee-based classes like Saboteur. Ranged classes like Dead-Eye and Sentinel are actually also suitable, but considering the reduced Critical Chance, making this race more suitable for the Saboteur class.

5. Fip: Smart Breed

  • Massive drop for Health
  • Moderate drop to Armor
  • Small drop in Melee Damage
  • Massive upgrade to Ki Energy
  • Moderate increase for Power
  • Moderate upgrade to Energy Regen
  • Upgrade to Critical Chance

The Fip race is famous for its highly developed thinking. His genius is directly related to the Ki power that amplifies their Psionic output. Fip has the highest initial Power, Ki Energy, and Energy Regen.

This makes it an ideal candidate for Psionic builds and Psi-Freak classes. However, they were also weaker than other races and had to focus on defensive equipment and ranged combat.

6. Murgel: Charismatic Race

Murgel is the definition of the ideal race. His evolutionary lineage has gone in a direction where form and appearance dominate function.

  • Big drop in Ki Energy
  • Moderate drop in Energy Regen
  • Small drop in Power
  • Barter Stats up
  • Critical Chance stats up
  • Increases Loot Chance stats

Murgel has average stats across the board. What sets them apart is their high ability to Barter, giving them an advantage in trading situations. They also have a slight boost to Loot Chance which makes them ideal for players who like to hunt for treasure and hoard items.

Regardless, Murgel is suitable for classes that don’t rely on Intellect skills. In particular, they can excel at ranged classes like Dead-Eye or Commando.
