9 Strongest and Unique Fusion Characters in Dragon Ball
Although fusion only appeared in one arc during the original Dragon Ball series, it’s hard to imagine this comic from Akira Toriyama without the characters joining forces to become more powerful fighters. While many fans are still debating the impact of the strongest fusion characters in story context (especially in relation to the series’ core themes), the addition of these characters has proven to be entertaining and can always lead to some interesting characters.
Considering the latest Dragon Ball Fusions game has increased the number of fusion characters to an astronomical level, so we will not be adding some characters from the game. Also, to help make sorting some of these characters easier, we’re going to focus on the strongest and most unique fusion characters.
Rou Kaioshin
Rou is a fusion character who was first introduced in Dragon Ball and became one of the strongest heroes. Many fans often forget that Rou Kaioshin is the result of the amalgamation of the ugly magician who fused with him through Potara.
At the time, Potara’s fusion was permanent regardless of species, so no real difference was seen. There are several things that are unique about this character, but the most unique is the fact that a magician is not a divine character which means he should be able to get out of fusion.
Maybe that’s why the blend seems to keep his original personality intact. Either way, the fusion result in the form of Kaioshin with a basket character unlocks the potential of the fusion character plot in Dragon Ball.
Kibitoshin
The first Potara fusion we saw in action, Rou Kaioshin tricked Kaioshin and Kibito into joining together. From then on, they were Kibitoshin, a fairly powerful Kaioshin who basically acted like the real Kaioshin.
It is noteworthy, although he was strong enough to confidently want to challenge Boo, Rou Kaioshin asked him not to interfere. Interestingly, Kibitoshin remains fully integrated in Dragon Ball GT, while Dragon Ball Super makes him use Dragon Balls to tame his abilities.
Considering the direction of the story that turned Potara’s earrings into permanent ones, one has to wonder if the fusion characters in DB Super will lead to such a convoluted potential.
aka
Appears only in “Yo! Son Goku And His Friends Return!! , Aka is a fusion of the two main villains, Abo and Cado. The Z Fighters soon realized that the two remaining Frieza forces would be too strong for most of them.
Abo and Cado brag about how they are stronger than Frieza, but seeing how the Z Fighters have dealt with Buu at this point, so they feel capable of challenging Goten and Trunks. These two Saiyan characters beat Abo and Cado almost ruthlessly so they decided to team up with Aka.
Goten and Trunks respond by merging into Gotenks, and a fusion fight begins between the two. Gotenks dominates this fight, and seems to be able to defeat Aka with his strength, but then the villain reappears and begins to destroy the surroundings.
Goku and Vegeta realize the playing time is over and step up to end the fight. It’s not that Aka is stronger than Gotenks; it’s just that Gotenks likes to play around too much, and doesn’t even use Super Saiyan 3.
Gotenks
Talking about Gotenks, the strongest and most unique fusion character is arguably the main introduction to fusion normalization in the Dragon Ball story. Gotenks is also the strongest character in terms of martial skills when fused. The most interesting thing about Gotenks is that this character doesn’t look strong right from the start and even though he managed to beat Boo.
Gotenks lost their first fight. However, after training in Spirit and Time Space, Gotenks is strong enough to go head-to-head with Evil Boo before tearing him apart with Super Saiyan 3. If Gotenks had timed his plans better, this character would actually have been able to defeat Boo with ease.
Super Android 17
Super Android 17 is one of the strongest fusion characters in the Dragon franchise that fans hate the most. That’s all because Android 17 is a character who has never been this powerful, but when he joins forces with his built-in counterpart to Hell, he suddenly becomes Super Android 17, one of the strongest villains we’ve ever seen.
This character easily overpowers all Z Fighters, including the Saiyans; even Vegeta. Not only that, but Super Android 17 also managed to dominate Super Saiyan 4 Goku until Android 18 forced his older brother to reveal his weaknesses.
Well logically, the two Android 17s that combine should be a fighter as strong as Semi-Perfect Cell, so most fans are not happy with the increase in power he gets.
Zamasu
As a divine character, it would be easy to assume that Zamasu who had been in fusion mode was the strongest fusion character. Zamasu was strong, but he wasn’t that strong. Given the scale of power that has shifted in Dragon Ball, each new antagonist will be stronger than the last.
There’s also the issue where Goku is now strong enough to take on Zamasu in a one-on-one battle with the Mastered Super Saiyan Blue he’s just mastered. If only Zamasu wasn’t a divine character, Goku would definitely be able to kill him straight away.
Kefla
The most entertaining Potara fusion character in the Dragon Ball series, Kefla is a force to be reckoned with. Kefla was able to change the direction of the fight against Goku and almost defeated a fighter from Universe 7.
Had Goku not fought Jiren first and triggered his Ultra Instinct form, Kefla might have been able to defeat him, and potentially even secure victory for Universe 6. Jiren would naturally pose a huge threat, but who knows what Kefla could do under such pressure. very strong?
Vegetto
Vegito, Vegerot, or whatever name you want to give him, Vegetto is one of the most popular characters in the series. This character represents Goku and Vegeta joining together in the most literal sense.
Vegetto also conveys the idea that to form the potential of the strongest fusion character in Dragon Ball, sometimes cooperation is needed. Even though Vegetto is a completely flat character, it’s an interesting character to read in the manga.
He has confidence that is not completely Goku or Vegeta, while still being very similar to both. Watching him destroy Boo is a truly incredible moment, and Vegetto’s designs are the best. However Goku notes that Vegetto will be much weaker than Beerus and this is what places him in second place on this list.
Gogeta
Gogeta is basically just Vegetto with a weirder personality. However, it’s hard to deny how interesting this character was when he appeared in Dragon Ball Super: Broly. For many, Gogeta may have done little harm to the narrative potential in a film filled with a lot of drama with Broly as the center point.
But seeing him in action is one of the most awaited moments. The moment of the fight between Gogeta and Broly will always stand out as one of the best battles in the animated Dragon Ball universe.
