2 Ways to Change Default DNS to Google DNS (100% Faster)
As humans, it is impossible for us to memorize all the IP addresses of all websites / sites in this world. Well, DNS is very helpful in terms of translating and converting domain names into IP addresses which makes us not have to bother remembering all the IP addresses we want to visit.
DNS also helps map the host name of a computer to the IP address of an application that is connected to the internet. The main concept, DNS is a distributed database or information storage that is used to make it easier to find information on the internet about the host name and domain name of a site.
DNS often doesn’t respond or crashes so you can’t connect to the site you want to go to or your internet connection is very slow. Don’t worry, you can fix the problem with DNS crashes, without the help of a computer expert.
This article will tell you how to change the default DNS to Google DNS or OpenDNS. Let’s see the steps below.
How to Change Default DNS to Google DNS / OpenDNS
Have you ever experienced Internet connection that often breaks or slows even though your internet network can be said to be good or have you paid a lot? Well, the failed or slow internet connection may be due to the DNS server used by the ISP or internet service provider that is inadequate in serving customers.
The main cause is that the number of users always exceeds the maximum limit of what is owned by the ISP so that traffic is overloaded. This problem can be solved by changing DNS to Google DNS or OpenDNS. This DNS itself has been claimed to be Fastest DNS.
#1 Changing DNS Through Control Panel
The Google company has its own DNS called Google DNS with DNS server addresses that are 8.8.8.8 and 8.8.4.4. Google DNS has the advantage of being faster than ISP DNS. For security issues, Google DNS is more of a DNS cache issue that prevents hackers from taking control of IP addresses. Follow the steps below.
1. Right-click the network icon as shown below. The network icon can be a signal image (if connected to wifi) and an image of a computer (if connected to a LAN). Next select Open Network and Sharing Center.
2. Click the connection you want, here I want to change the DNS on my Wifi connection.
3. Then select Properties.
4. Then click 2X Internet Protocol Version 4 (TCP/IPv4).
5. Select Use the following DNS server addresses, then enter the DNS you want in the column preferred DNS server and Alternate DNS servers. For example like the image below. If you have selected OK.
#2 Changing DNS Through Settings
1. Right click windows icon on the taskbar menu on your monitor or with press windows key + X on your keyboard > Select Network Connections.
2. Pselect Change connection properties in the area that has been given a red box.
3. Scroll down or swipe down until IP Settings appear as shown below > Click the Edit button on IP assignments.
4. Click on Automatic (DHCP) or down arrow.
5. Then select Manual.
6. Next IPv4 switch switch to ON byclick buttononly.
7. Then fill in the IP address, Subnet prefix length, Gateway, Preferred DNS, Alternate DNS. To fill it out, you can view the information via Command Prompt.
8. Open Command Prompt (CMD) with Click the search icon on the taskbar > type command prompt > select Command Prompt.
9. Type at the command prompt: ipconfig /all > Press Enter.
10. Scroll down or swipe down until you find Wireless LAN Adapter Wi-Fi section like the picture below.
11. Reopen Edit IP Settings > Fill in all fields according to the contents of CMD > Click Save/Save.
Notes:
IP Address = IPv4 Address (but the last number is replaced with another number that is still in the IP class section or more easily just add 1, for example 8 to 9.), Subnet prefix legth = Subnet Mask on CMD, Gateway = Default Gateway, Preferred DNS = Google DNS i.e. 8.8.8.8, , Alternate DNS = Google DNS i.e. 8.8.4.4
12. Click back icon/return as shown below.
13. Turn off/Off Wi-Fi > Turn on/On Wi-Fi again to refresh.
14. Reopen CMD > type: ipconfig /all > Press Enter.
15. So, IP address, Subnet prefix length, Gateway, Preferred DNS and Alternate DNS already changed as previously filled in.
16. To test for success or failure, type in CMD: ping 8.8.8.8 -t > Press Enter.
17. If your CMD display looks like the one below, then you’ve done it succeed change the ISP’s DNS to Google’s DNS. However, if the text that comes out is requested time out, then you failed.
How about using OpenDNS?
In addition to the above Google DNS, Open DNS can also maximize your internet connection. The Open DNS addresses are 208.67.222.222 and 208.67.220.220. For security concerns, Open DNS is better at blocking suspicious sites and known as phishing scams. Open DNS can also correct errors in typing a website domain. The way to replace it is also the same as the first and second ways, it’s just that the DNS address is different from Google DNS.
1. To change the ISP’s DNS to Open DNS, the method is the same as changing to Google DNS (Follow steps 1 – 17). However, fill Preferred DNS with 208.67.222.222 and fill ALternate DNS with 208,67,220,220
2. To check whether it is successful, bopen CMD > Type: ping 208.67.222.222> press Enter.
3. If your CMD display looks like the one below, then you’ve done it succeed change the ISP’s DNS to Open DNS. However, if the text that comes out is requested time out, then you failed.
That’s a tutorial on how to change the default DNS to Google DNS and Open DNS. Hopefully useful and your internet connection is getting better. Come on, use the internet positively!
