Star Control Origins Review: Exciting Space Exploration!
Maybe some of you have heard of Star Control before. Star Control was first released in the 1990s and Star Control Origins which we will discuss this time is a prequel to the Star Control Universe which was released on PC in 1990.
Set in the year 2088, where humans begin to go into space to explore the universe whose tasks are similar to Starfleet in the Star Trek Universe. Exploration, research, maintaining peace, and diplomacy are your duties as the captain of The Vindicator plane. In addition, you are also tasked with gathering and creating allies to fight the ancient alien threat that threatens to destroy the human race.
Star Control Origins is a simple and easy to understand game. Like other space-themed games, you can explore the existing planets. The space available is also very wide because there are many solar systems that can be visited by plane, and collect various objects in it.
While visiting the planets, you will also meet several alien races that you can interact with. You can interact to establish a relationship with these aliens, and there will be several choices during the dialogue that will determine the direction of the game. Each alien race also has different characteristics so that different strategies are needed to communicate.
During the exploration process, maybe you will find this game feels a little boring because you will keep repeating exploration to different places. However, you also need to have a strategy so that your exploration process is not interrupted because it runs out of fuel.
In addition, you will also meet ancient aliens who will interfere with your exploration process. For that, Star Control Origins presents a battle system when you have to face these enemies.
In Star Control Origins, the existing spaceships can be customized according to taste. There is an additional mode that allows customization of ships and buildings. The design results can also be shared and used by other players through the Steam Workshop. We can also use other users’ customizations by downloading them from the Steam Workshop.
Star Control Origins has a light specification requirement with the need for only a dual core processor with 4 GB of RAM. We played the game on an AMD Ryzen 7 1800X system with an AMD RX 580 graphics card and got an average of 140 FPS. In addition to buying this game through Steam, you can also get it graphically for every purchase of an AMD Radeon RX Vega, RX 580, or RX 570 graphics card.
In conclusion, Star Control Origins is a game with a space exploration genre that is packed quite interestingly. This game is simple and very easy to understand. But because it’s simple, Star Control Origins may not be suitable for those of you who like more complex and serious games,
Plus
- Simple and easy to understand
