Sony Plans Limited PS5 Release in Early 2021
Until now there has been no appearance of the appearance of the PlayStation 5, the next generation console belonging to Sony Interactive Entertainment. Last week Sony unveiled a PlayStation 5 controller, this time called the DualSense controller, no longer using the “DualShock” from the days of the first PlayStation.
The well-known US news media Bloomberg has received the latest information regarding the PlayStation 5, which is quite a surprise for all the fans who have been waiting for it for a long time. According to Bloomberg, Sony will release the PlayStation 5 on a limited basis until the early fiscal year 2021, or until March 2021. Sony has informed investors that it will release the previous 5 to 6 million units when the PlayStation 5 releases. PlayStation 4 was released at the time of its late 2013 release, selling 7.5 million units in the first 6 months.
Further information from Bloomberg’s intel, the cost of components for the PlayStation 5 is also quite high, so Sony is having a hard time determining the selling price. According to some game developers, they estimate the price of the PlayStation 5 will be around $499 up to $549.
Sony’s strategy ahead of the release of the PlayStation 5 was to use the PlayStation 4 as a “bridge” for new users to the world of console gaming. And also by introducing their network services, such as PlayStation Plus and PlayStation Now. With this Sony hopes to have a fairly stable number of users when the PlayStation 5 releases with a limited number. Currently the PlayStation 4 console on the market has 2 versions, namely the PlayStation 4 (Slim) for $ 300, and the PlayStation 4 Pro with stronger specifications for $ 400.
The number of PlayStation 5 units at the time of this release may change, following the development of Covid-19 which has global effects to date. This issue has changed the PlayStation 5 promotion schedule, so they haven’t been able to hold a press conference to announce the release date. Regarding the release date, it is still at the end of 2021, unless Microsoft’s competitors announce the postponement of the Xbox Series X release schedule, PlayStation 5’s main rival.
