Nintendo Demands Websites That Share Their Games For Free

LoveRETRO and LoveROMs Website websites become Nintendo’s target in copyright matters

The development of the game world can not be underestimated anymore. Big companies like Sony for example, may not mind the presence of emulators. Considering the price of Sony’s consoles, which are still expensive to date, don’t count the prices of existing games. Japanese company, Nintendo don’t stay silent in this matter of copyright.

2 websites that provide ROMs, LoveROMs and LoveRETRO are Nintendo’s main targets for lawsuits (PDF regarding Nintendo’s lawsuit). There is a reason why these two websites are being chased by Nintendo in terms of copyright.

“The LoveROMs website alone receives 17 million visitors per month. Such visitors are drawn to the website by the widespread availability of free, unauthorized copies of Nintendo’s video games and other highly valuable intellectual property.” The LoveROMs website itself managed to reach 17 million visitors every month. Which means LoveROMs alone can make hundreds of thousands of US dollars, even more every month just by giving free ROMs to players.

In response to this, LoveROMs removed all games made for Nintendo, but not for other games. As for LoveRETRO, they have deactivated their website until an unknown date. The amount that was sued by Nintendo itself is also not half-hearted. US$150,000 for each Nintendo game on the website, and US$2,000,000 for copyright only. In addition, the two websites are also required to provide all domains that provide these games.
