Cross-Play arrives in Apex Legends! Yay more and more gangs can play once!

Respawn Entertainment excited to announce to all old fans Apex Legends those requesting the cross-play feature will be in beta! Starting October 6th, PlayStation, Xbox and Origin players will have the option to join cross-play play or continue on the platform’s exclusive servers to hunt. Legendstheir passion, collect loot in Kings Canyon or World’s Edge and rule the arena with their friends.

To celebrate the addition of cross-play, the upcoming Apex Legends in-game event is Event The Aftermarket Collection will start on October 6 and last until October 20. Program The Aftermarket Collection will be filled with the new LTM Flashpoint where the player’s health will be increased again in the game Flash Point Zones big ones, changing the way they navigate the map to stay alive. The event will also feature the debut of Caustic heirloom and more event-limited items.

So what’s in Cross-play:

CROSS-PLAY BETA

Since the launch of Apex Legends, cross-play has become one of the most requested traits from players who want the ability to play with their friends on other platforms. During the cross-play beta, players will have full access to cross-play functionality during data collection, feature testing on a large scale, and most importantly, to get feedback.

  • Players will be able to “party up” and play together across all of the platforms now supported: PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and Origin (Steam does when it launches too!).
  • Cross platform play is enabled by default. But if you have changed it, you must be willing! The Xbox One also contains a similar setting in system settings, outside of games, which must be enabled. 3

  • To add friends on any platform, go to the friends menu and click “Find Friend”. You will be able to search for usernames on any platform and initiate a “friend request”.

  • Users who are picked up will receive a motivation in the lobby to accept, reject, or block incoming peer requests. Blocking a peer request will not only deny the request, it will also prevent you from seeing additional invites or cross-play requests from that user in the future. You can search for and unblock users from within the find friends menu.

  • You can see all your friends in the friends menu and which platform they are on, indicated by the platform icon. If you are using a console, friends on the same platform will be indicated by a PlayStation or Xbox icon depending on which platform you are on, and players on other branded consoles will be indicated by a generic gamepad icon. In this sample image, the user is playing on an Xbox One, so the first friend who is also on the Xbox One has an Xbox icon, the second partner is on the PlayStation 4 but is represented with a generic gamepad icon. The third companion is a PC player.

  • After becoming friends, you can start a game invitation via the friends menu. For cross-platform invites, party invites will appear on the lobby screen and allow you to join the party. The same cross-platform invites will continue to use the default notifications as before, namely Origin game invites, or Xbox notifications.

  • Cross platform parties may use voice chat in the game.
  • Cross-play does not mean cross-progression. While developers believe this is a valuable feature, it’s sadly not available for Apex Legends for now. However, the developer will talk more about this at our Steam launch later this year.

CROSS-PLAY MATCHMAKING

Now that you know how to find, pick up, and play with friends, I think it’s also important to talk about how cross-matching games work.

  • Prior to cross-play, each platform would only play with and against other users on the same platform. Now, all console players will play together, and PC players will continue to play only with other PC players. The developer wants to make sure that PC players are not compatible with console players, for reasons that should be obvious.
  • However, if an Xbox One or PlayStation 4 player as well as a PC player pair up, they will be entered into a PC match. This ensures that console games don’t have PC players on board, but still allows console players to play with their PC counterparts if they participate.
  • Now, regarding those settings as stated earlier. If you want to ‘disable’ cross platform altogether, you can turn off main cross platform in the settings menu. Doing so will only make you match up with other users on the same platform, who have also disabled cross platform play. This has a high chance of making your wait time very long, as it is expected that most users will be cross platform enabled given the enabled ‘enabled’ state and the demand for the feature from so many players.
