Unreal, KOEI Tecmo, and Ubisoft will share knowledge at IDGX 2021
The Indonesian Game Association (AGI) introduced the initiation of a new program to improve the capabilities and quality of Indonesian game developers called the Indonesia Game Developer eXchange (IGDX) 2021.
IDGX is an annual event, where in the 2021 edition this time it will be held at Binus University Bandung at Paskal Hypersquare 23 on 16 November.
This event will bring together many game industry players, both from within and outside the country, to share knowledge and build networks with hundreds of Indonesian game developers who attended.
“The game industry is currently growing and has very good prospects for the future,” said Johan Muliadi Kerta, Vice Chancellor for Academic, Research and Student Development at Binus University, Bandung.
“With this event, it is hoped that new talents will emerge who have ideas and innovations to advance the game industry in the country.”
The implementation of IGDX 2021 is quite unique because it is organized collaboratively by Indonesian game industry players who are members of AGI, starting from planning the event to its execution in November 2021.
IGDX 2021 itself continues the conference format from the Game Developer Gathering (GDG), which was last held in 2021.
The two event formats for studying IGDX 2021 present two different event formats that can be participated by Indonesian game developers.
First there is the Super Conference, where there will be local and international speakers sharing their experiences and insights about the game industry.
The Super Conference will present materials covering various aspects of the industry, from post mortems (behind-the-scenes stories of developing a game), panel discussions on the latest industry trends, to tips and tricks about game development.
While the second format is Super Class, which is a semi-workshop learning session that is more “intimate” and exclusive, where each class is limited to only 20 people.
There are three specific classes that can be followed, namely Game Design/Production, Programming, and Visual Art & Sound. Because each class lasts for one full day, participants can only choose one class to take according to their specialization and interests.
Several international speakers are ready to attend and share their knowledge at IGDX 2021 such as Gilbran Imami (Koei Tecmo), Justin Ng (Ubisoft), Iain Garner (Another Indie) and Chris Murphy (Unreal).
This line-up of international speakers completes the list of local speakers who will also participate such as Steve Lie (Game5Mobile), Rahmad Imron (Digital Happiness), Eka Pramudita Muharram (Mojiken) and I Made Teguh (Agate).
In addition to the Super Conference and Super Class, IGDX 2021 will also present a showcase area for Indonesian game developers. In this area, selected local developers will showcase their games and get valuable input from participants and speakers to improve the quality of their games.
“Currently the game development ecosystem in Indonesia is much better than six years ago, when AGI was first formed. There are already several companies whose businesses are booming in both local and international markets,” said Cipto Adiguno, President of AGI.
“Most of them grew up self-taught, learned how to make products driven by hobbies and passions, and from there became professionals.”
However, Cipto also considered that the development of game developers in Indonesia could be much better at this time.
“Unfortunately, these developers have difficulty taking steps to a higher stage, both in terms of game development and digital business aspects because Indonesia does not have mentors who are experienced in large-scale industries.”
“This talent side is the missing link of our game industry that is still incomplete, and I hope that IGDX can be the spark that starts the exponential pace of video game development in Indonesia,” said Cipto.
Adam Ardisasmita, Chairman of the Committee from IGDX also said the same thing. He hopes that this event can be a means for local developers to develop.
“Hopefully IGDX can be a shortcut for local Indonesian developers to increase their capacity and capability so they can be more competitive and seize the local market,” said Adam Ardisasmita, Chairman of the Committee of IGDX.
“For this reason, we invite several game industry players from home and abroad to be able to share knowledge and help local Indonesian developers develop even better,” he continued.
Tickets to take part in IGDX 2021 are available and can be purchased through the Goers website and application. The price set to participate in this event is IDR 350,000 (for Super Conference) and IDR 750,000 per class (Super Class).
However, if you are interested in participating, you can get early bird tickets for Rp. 300,000 (for Super Conference) and Rp. 650,000 per class (for Super Class) starting today as long as the early bird ticket quota is still available.
