Take-Two Calls Gamers Ready to Pay Expensively for PS5 and Xbox Series Games
GAMEFINITY.ID, Jakarta – The price of games from the next generation of consoles, PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X/S in the future is expected to be more expensive than the previous console versions of games. Call it NBA 2K21, a game by Take-Two which is marketed for USD69.99 or around Rp. 849,000 in Indonesia.
It is not impossible if other games are marketed more expensive, and gamers have to spend more than Rp. 1 million for new games. In this regard, Take-Two CEO confirmed that the decision to charge $69.99 for the next-generation version of NBA 2K21 was the right one.
Speaking at the Morgan Stanley Technology, Media & Telecommunications Conference last week, quoted by VGC), Take-Two boss Strauss Zelnick expressed his views on the pricing of NBA 2K21 and what it means for the price of the game in the future.
“Our view is that we offer a great set of experiences, lots of replayability, and the last time there was a high rise for games in the US was 2005, 2006. So we think consumers are ready for that,” Zelnick said.
He himself did not want to reveal further whether the games made by Take-Two, and its subsidiaries such as Rockstar (the developer of Grand Theft Auto) will cost more than 70 USD. However, he ensured that companies need to focus on providing a level of content so that high prices are still reasonable.
“We want to always provide more value than we charge, while ensuring consumers have a positive gaming and paying experience,” he explained.
“We all know when you’re overcharged for something, it’s definitely going to ruin the experience. So we always want to make sure that consumers give us more than we ask for in return. We are an entertainment company, we are here to captivate and engage consumers. If we succeed then monetization will follow.”
NBA 2K21 is the first next-gen game to be officially priced at 70 USD. The problem of the price of the next generation of games is a problem for the gaming industry, besides of course the limited availability of consoles that makes not all gamers able to play the PS5 or Xbox Series.
In November, Sony Interactive Entertainment CEO Jim Ryan also called the prices of first-party PS5 games like Demon’s Souls and Marvel’s Spider-Man: Miles Morales Ultimate Edition, which cost the same as NBA 2K21, “not too expensive.”
