Take advantage of economic law, PS5 brokers earn Rp560 million in a week

GAMEFINITY.ID, Jakarta – Like the law of economics, the higher the demand while the stock (supply) of goods is limited, the price of an item will soar. This is what happened to Sony’s latest generation console, the PlayStation 5 (PS5). Within a month of this console being released, the price of the PS5 has now increased rapidly. This is used by a number of brokers to make a profit. As reported by Business Insider, even a broker claimed to be able to gain up to 40,000 USD or around IDR 560 million in a week!

The broker, named Mark F, managed to buy 221 PS5 units for 500 USD per unit, according to the price marketed by Sony. Mark sold it again for 1,000 USD. With a selling price of twice the purchase price, the broker claims to have earned 40,000 in a week. Even if he manages to sell the entire PS5 for US $ 1,000, then he has the potential to earn up to USD 100,000 or around Rp. 1.41 billion.

Indeed, Sony applies the rule of one game console for one person only. Somehow the brokers managed to get more than one console. A group of scalpers called CrepChiefNotify even claimed to have bought 3,500 PS5s. The story of brokers selling PS5 above the official price is also found in China, where the brokers have set the price of this game console at 1,500 USD per unit or three times the official price.

It seems that the brokers are making the most of this economic law. From the demand side, according to data from VG Chartz, Sony managed to sell up to 1,483,910 PS5 units in the first week of launch, November 8-14 2021. This figure is higher than sales of their rival consoles, Microsoft Xbox Series X and Xbox. The S Series sold 1,345,386 units. As for the supply side, the President and CEO of Sony Interactive Entertainment (SIE), Jim Ryan also admitted that his party had difficulty providing stock to meet the really high market demand.

While Sony has released the PS5 in a number of countries on November 12 and 19, in Indonesia the PS5 is planned to be released on January 22, 2021. The PS5 Digital Edition will be available at a recommended retail price of IDR 7,299 million and the PS5 with an Ultra HD Blu-ray disc drive. ray (standard edition) will be available with SRP of IDR 8,799 million.

Gamers can pre-order starting December 18, 2021. Online and offline ordering times vary depending on retailer’s operating hours. However, as previously reported by a number of online stores have offered them to consumers at insane prices, exceeding the Rp17 million per unit.
