Starring Joe Taslim as Sub-Zero, the Latest Mortal Kombat Film Releases April 2021

GAMEFINITY.ID, Jakarta – Warner Bros. has changed the release dates for its three upcoming films. One of them is the film adaptation of the video game Mortal Kombat, which also stars Indonesian action actor Joe Taslim. After initially being set for January 15, 2021, Mortal Kombat will premiere on April 16, 2021.

Quoted from Variety, Warner Bros. also revealed the release schedule for the Tom and Jerry films and Hugh Jackman’s sci-fi drama Reminiscence. The last name was originally slated for mid-April, now removed from the studio calendar. The animated remake of Tom and Jerry was moved a week earlier from March 5 to February 26, 2021.

The three films, along with other 2021 Warner Bros. films, will premiere on HBO Max the same day as they premiere in theaters. In total, 18 films including Wonder Woman 1984 are starting to appear in Indonesian cinemas today, Wednesday (16/12/2021). Other films to be released over the next 12 months are The Matrix 4, Dune, and In the Heights.

Movies showing on HBO Max will be available on subscriber accounts for 31 days. Then, the titles will only play in theaters until everyone can access them via Amazon, iTunes, and other online platforms.

Mortal Kombat is directed by Simon McQuoid and written by Greg Russo and Dave Callaham. The film follows the greatest champion on Earth, who is called upon to fight the enemies of the Outer World and save the planet from utter destruction. Action actor from Indonesia, Joe Taslim will appear as the legendary character Bi-Han aka Sub-Zero.

Besides Joe Taslim, this film also stars Ludi Lin, Tadanobu Asano, and Jessica McNamee. Aquaman and Fast 7 director James Wan is co-producing Mortal Kombat with Todd Garner, whose work includes Paul Blart: Mall Cop, Zookeeper, and 13 Going on 30.

Meanwhile Tom and Jerry, directed by Tim Story, will tell the story of a cat and mouse duo from the legendary cartoon. The film, featuring a mix of live-action and animation, stars Chloe Grace Moretz, Michael Pena, Rob Delaney, Colin Jost and Ken Jeong.

Reminiscence highlights Jackman as a scientist who finds a way to revive any memory and uses the technology to penetrate the past of a woman he loves. Lisa Joy, who co-created the HBO sci-fi drama Westworld, directed the film in her directorial debut. The cast also includes Rebecca Ferguson, Thandie Newton, and Daniel Wu.
