A Reddit user with the username zombieinferno share a touching story about how the game Skyrim saved his life eight years ago. As of June 2021, he was 40 years old, living far from friends and family, and suffering from depression due to bipolar disorder.

He was so depressed that he even attempted suicide by hanging himself several times but failed. He panicked as he began to be unable to breathe until he finally found another way to end his life.

When he had found another way and was preparing to kill himself, he thought instead and wondered who he would leave his belongings to. He then looked at his game library on Steam and realized that he hadn’t even finished the game Skyrim, the game he loved so much that he had spent hundreds of hours on it.

Looking back, I understand that there was a dispute in my head. The rational part of the brain is trying to find a reason to live, because life is amazing and full of beautiful moments, and the irrational part is trying to destroy itself, because the life I live is full of pain, suffering and strife.

Finally, he decided to promise to finish the Skyrim game at all costs before ending his life. However, instead of just focusing on finishing the main plot, he had fun playing Skyrim. The complexity of the Skyrim game makes him want to finish everything in the game before he dies.

After a month later, he finally finished the Skyrim game in full. When he finished this game he felt two things, namely satisfaction and happiness. At this very moment he began to think about all the things he would miss if he died.

If I end my life, what else will I miss? I consider whether life is worth living if we have moments where we experience joy through the media? Through songs, or movies, or yes, even video games?

From that moment on, he decided to move on with his life and put the thoughts of suicide away. He also left the place where he almost died and returned to his family. In fact, now he has found the love of his life.

Skyrim itself is an open world action role-playing game developed by Bethesda Game Studios and published by Bethesda Softworks in 2011. This game, which is the fifth installment in the Elder Scrolls franchise, presents a vast world to explore. The story in this game is long and players are freed in adventure. No wonder, until now there are still many gamers who play it.
