Microsoft Officially Launches Xbox Series X and S

GAMEFINITY.ID, Jakarta – Microsoft officially launched two models of Xbox game consoles, Xbox Series X and Xbox Series S on Tuesday (11/10/2021). The arrival of the new Xbox series is seven years after the debut of the previous version and is expected to capture the game consumer spending boom driven by the COVID-19 pandemic.

Quoted by from Reuters, the Xbox Series X which Microsoft claims is the “most powerful console in the world” is marketed for USD499.99 US dollars (approximately Rp. 7 million). While the Xbox Series S which does not have a disk drive is marketed at a lower price for 299.99 US dollars (about Rp. 4.2 million).

This strategy offered consumers more choice, but the more compact S Series faced criticism for being less powerful than the X Series, with less storage capacity and less sophisticated “ray tracing” graphics for games like Devil May Cry 5.

Xbox will compete with Sony’s PlayStation 5, which is scheduled to launch on Thursday (11/12/2021). The PS5 is widely seen to be leading the console race at this time due to its larger fan base and more exclusive titles available at launch.

This is the first time Microsoft has launched its gaming console globally on nearly the same day. Microsoft says it has seen a high number of pre-orders for the Xbox console in various markets. While the initial pre-order supplies are selling out quickly, Microsoft says additional stock will be available at launch.

Meanwhile, Microsoft’s Xbox Game Pass, a subscription service with more than 100 titles including new games, is seen as Microsoft’s biggest weapon to cut PlayStation dominance. Game Pass has grown rapidly with over 15 million users since its launch. However, Xbox is considered lacking in “deadly” games, where the latest Halo game has to be pushed back to next year due to the pandemic that hit the development process.

“Each studio faces unique challenges and constraints depending on its specific location, and many of our external development partners around the world have been impacted similarly,” said Xbox EMEA Director Ryan Cameron.
