KONI Will Soon Form Indonesian Esports Executive Board

GAMEFINITY.ID, Jakarta – The Indonesian National Sports Committee (KONI) is ready to take part in the development of esports in the country. The decision was taken after the implementation of the Indonesian Esports Symposium which was held at the Central KONI Office in Jakarta today (3/9/2021).

The symposium was attended by Esports Industry players ranging from Game Publishers, Payment Gateways, Esports Teams, and even three game associations in Indonesia such as IeSPA, AGI, and AVGI. Each of these Esports Industry players provides views and information regarding the development of the homeland Esports world.

From the results of the symposium, it was determined that there are several challenges for the esports industry, such as the perception of the public, especially parents who still underestimate that esports is not good and just a waste of time. Not only that, at this time Esports is still not an official sport in Indonesia. So, esports competitions are still being conducted individually. Not only these two challenges, of course there are other challenges that will be present in this industry.

For this reason, through this symposium, KONI also revealed that it would soon form a large board of Esports Indonesia. The parent Esports branch will be formed by involving various stakeholders ranging from Professional Esports Teams, Game Developers, Media, Event Organizers, and also Game Associations in Indonesia. This was conveyed directly by Lt. Gen. TNI (Ret.) Marciano Norman as the General Chair of the Central Koni.

“KONI is determined to organize the preparations for the formation of a large board of Esports Indonesia. We collaborate with the Ministry of Youth and Sports, the Ministry of Communication and Information Technology, then with the Indonesian Olympic Committee and all Indonesian Esports Stakeholders. From there, we believe that the development of esports in Indonesia will make a very advanced step and this esports as an organization will also truly become an organization that is loved by young people,” he said.

Not only discussing esports, at this symposium KONI also gave awards to two well-known esports teams in Indonesia, namely RRQ TCN and Evos Capital who have succeeded in bringing Indonesia’s name to the international scene. (FA)
