Interesting, Android 12 Lets You Play Downloaded Games

GAMEFINITY.ID, Purworejo – In the event Google for Games Developer Summit 2021 Yesterday, Google announced a new feature for Android 12 called “Play as You Download”. This feature allows you to play the game while you are downloading it.

Feature “Play as You Download” will download the core assets of the game first so you can start playing the game right away. Well, while you are playing the game, the Google Play Store will continue to download the remaining assets of the game in the background.

“Play as You Download, built into the core of Android 12, will allow users to jump into gameplay in seconds while game assets are downloaded in the background. “We saw games ready to open at least twice as fast and we are very pleased with the improved user experience,” said Greg Hartrell, director of product management for Google Play and Android.

Google claims the feature will allow games to be ready to open at least twice as fast as before. In Google’s testing, a game with a size of 400 MB will only take 10 seconds to load.

As mentioned earlier, this feature will only be available on devices running Android 12 because the feature is built into the Android 12 system itself.

The “Play as You Download” feature is open to all app developers. It’s just that developers must build their applications with the Android App Bundle (AAB) format, the latest format for APK replacement. This is because the feature uses Play Asset Delivery (PAD) which is only available in apps that use the AAB format.

The concept of this feature is actually not new because this kind of feature has long been present on the PlayStation and Xbox consoles. But with the quality of Android games that continue to increase and their sizes getting bigger, the presence of this feature on Android will certainly be very helpful.

In addition to this feature, at the event Google also announced a new game dashboard for Android 12 that makes it easier for you to take screenshots and record screens while playing games.
