How GeNose Test Works, Prices and Costs
In addition to vaccination, efforts to combat Covid-19 are carried out through mass detection by increasing test capacity. One way to detect is with a tool called Genose.
Genose itself is a corona virus detection tool released by a research team from Gajah Mada University (UGM). The device is claimed to be able to detect the presence of the Covid-19 virus in the human body in just 80 seconds.
Not only fast, the patient only needs to exhale to be able to start detection. This is because the way Genose works is by detecting Volatile Organic Compound (VOC) or volatile organic compounds.
Well, in people who have been infected with the Covid-19 virus, these compounds are formed and can be released through exhalation. For this reason, during detection, the patient will be asked to exhale into a special bag that is directly connected to Genose.
Exhalation will pass through a sensor that has been embedded in the device. The sensor then generates data which will be processed using artificial intelligence technology.
In its official release, UGM admitted that it had conducted a profiling test using 600 valid data samples at the Bhayangkara Hospital and the Special Covid-19 Field Hospital in Yogyakarta. In these tests it is known that this device has an accuracy rate of 97 percent.
GeNose has officially received a distribution permit from the Ministry of Health since the end of last December with the number KEMENKES RI AKD 20401022883. Even so, UGM confirms that they have not marketed it widely to the general public. This was revealed to respond to the confusion of the public who saw GeNose being displayed on online buying and selling sites.
They explained that not just anyone can have GeNose. Currently, they are still focused on distributing these tools for the fields of health services, public service institutions, education and corporate interests.
Another reason that GeNose has not been widely marketed is related to the protocols that must be run when using this tool. This makes this tool unusable for people who do not have the authority to declare whether someone has been exposed to the Corona virus or not.
Separately, PT KAI on Friday officially introduced GeNose services at Gambir, Pasar Senen and Solo Balapan stations. The service is part of KAI’s commitment to support the government’s program in preventing the spread of COVID-19 on rail transport.
In practice, the inspection of GeNose C19 at all stations runs in an orderly and orderly manner. There were no long queues and each participant kept their distance to create physical distancing.
The train station became the target of the first introduction of a detection device made by this country’s children. Regarding the cost, the GeNose test is priced at Rp. 20,000, which is much more affordable than the PCR test and the Antigen swab test.
“For 30 minutes before the inspection, prospective passengers are prohibited from smoking, eating and drinking except water to increase the accuracy of the GenOS C19 examination results. During the implementation, prospective passengers are asked to blow their bags to the brim and follow directions from officers or instructions at the inspection site,” said Joni Martinus, VP of Public Relations of KAI in a press release of PT KAI.
The results of the inspection that show negative passengers will be valid for 3 x 24 hours from the date the results are issued and can be used as a condition for boarding the train at all long-distance train departure stations. Meanwhile, if a passenger who has been tested using GeNose shows a positive result, the prospective passenger is not allowed to ride and the ticket fee will be refunded in full. (via)
