Game Made by Ex-GTA Boss, Everywhere Use Unreal Engine

GAMEFINITY.ID, Jakarta – Everywhere, the open world game owned by former Grand Theft Auto (GTA) producer Leslie Benzies announced that it will switch the use of its game engine to Unreal Engine. Developer Build a Rocket Boy (BaRB) confirmed that they will no longer be using Amazon’s proprietary game engine Lumberyard which recently received more than $40 million in private funding.

Former president of Rockstar North, Leslie Benzies founded Build a Rocket Boy in 2021. Benzies who was one of the most influential figures behind the GTA series left Rockstar in 2021. Benzies sued Take-Two Interactive for $150 million for unpaid royalties, claiming that the company tried to force him out after he took a sabbatical. The problem was finally resolved in 2021.

Edinburgh and Budapest-based BaRB has employed more than 130 people including veteran GTA V programmer Colin Entwistle, lead cinematic animator Felipe Busquets, music director Craig Conner and writer Mondo Ghulam. Eve: Valkyrie designer Andrew Robinson is the lead designer of Everywhere, with the environment art led by Call of Duty veteran Liz Hubley.

Overall, the Everywhere team is made up of people with triple-A experience, while the staff is also made up of veterans from DICE, Rare, and Ninja Theory. BaRB is still opening vacancies for around 50 positions. Benzies told Venturebeat in 2021 that the Everywhere game was unlike any other game it had worked on before.

“Everywhere has a lot of traditional gameplay mechanics, but we looked for something more and drew inspiration from everywhere. Players are getting smarter and need more from their games, and we want players to have real freedom to live in our world the way they want. We offer a wide variety of game modes and styles that not only tell stories, but also allow players to live in the identities and adventures they most want to explore.”
