From Tencent to Ubisoft, Lyrics of Indonesian Game Developers

GAMEFINITY.ID, Jakarta – After successfully entering the American market through the Game Connection America (GCA) 2021 last March,, ten Indonesian game companies finally entered the European market through Gamescom 2021 which was held in Cologne, Germany on 20-24 August 2021. The ten game companies are Agate International, MassHive Media, Megaxus Infotech, Wawa Games, Ozysoft Studio, Touchten Games, IESPL, Komodoz, Plexus & Oray Studios and Everidea Interactive.

The participation of the Indonesian delegation at Gamescom 2021 is a continuation of the Archipelageek program initiated by the Indonesian Creative Economy Agency (BEKRAF) and the Indonesian Game Association (AGI). Archipelageek is a program that aims to help creative industry players, especially in the application and game developer sub-sector, to show off in the global market and get potential business partners.

With its status as the largest game event in Europe, Gamescom 2021 is certainly the best gateway to target the European market. Every year, Gamescom is attended by more than 350,000 visitors from all over the world as well as more than 30,000 potential business partners who are expected to help Indonesian games to be better known in the European market. In 2021, Gamescom 2021 was recorded to be attended by more than 370,000 visitors and 1,037 exhibitors from all over the world. The Gamescom 2021 event itself consists of 11 Halls, where the Indonesian pavilion itself occupies one of the areas in Hall 3. Hall 3 is the hall that is the “center” of the world pavilion, because apart from Indonesia, this Hall is occupied by several delegates from other countries from around the world such as Italy. , UK, Korea, China and Singapore.

“I am very happy with the presence of young Indonesian entrepreneurs at the 2021 Gamescom,” said Indonesian Ambassador to Germany Arif Havas Oegroseno while visiting the Indonesian pavilion. “I hope that its presence can be expanded to more than 10 delegates next year and can become a country partner of Gamescom 2021. So that Indonesia’s profile in the gaming industry can be more visible in the eyes of the world. It’s time for Indonesia to be known as an exporter of great talents in the game industry,” he continued.

400++ Business meeting with USD12 Million potential Since the Indonesian pavilion is located in the Business to Business (B2B) area, the main activity of the pavilion is to bring together Indonesian delegates with their potential business partners. In one day holding Gamescom 2021 (which was held from 09.00 to 18.00 local time), on average each delegation held a minimum of 10 business meetings. This means that if you add up, in a day there are more than 100 business meetings that take place in the Indonesian pavilion.

Not only that, several delegates also occasionally held business meetings at the booths of their prospective business partners. If a day’s business meeting at the Indonesian pavilion or at the Koelnmesse (event venue) is deemed lacking, some delegates are also still holding follow-up meetings by participating in networking events held in the city of Cologne.

In just two days, the business meeting at Gamescom 2021 has recorded business potential reaching USD12,312,000 or around Rp178 billion. This business potential takes various forms, ranging from game publishing, outsourcing services to co-development partners who are ready to be explored further after returning from Gamescom 2021.

Esports gateway to global market

Not only for game developers and publishers, Gamescom 2021 also has a positive impact on the game ecosystem as a whole, including esports. The presence of several large companies in the field of esports ranging from esports games, organizers, talents to international streaming platforms and services can be a gateway for Indonesian esports to reach the global market. So that it is hoped that in the future, Indonesian esports athletes can have a clear career path, not only domestically but also to the world level.
