Final Fantasy VIII Remastered Mobile Review, The Latest Classic JRPG In Your Hands

GAMEFINITY.ID, Jakarta – Recently, Square Enix surprised fans by suddenly launching Final Fantasy VIII Remastered on the mobile market. The reason is, Final Fantasy VIII had an issue of losing the source code of the program which made it not continue to be produced. In addition, it is a pity that previously the installation of this 8th main series was missed to get its port in the mobile market.

Thankfully, the issue passed when Square Enix officially launched the remastered version on console and PC platforms on September 3, 2021. Until now, Final Fantasy VIII Remastered has officially launched on the mobile platform at a price of $20.99 or around 350 thousand rupiah. Then is this port worth buying? Please refer to the following discussion.

Just like other old Final Fantasy titles, Final Fantasy VIII Remastered is an RPG game with a challenging ATB Battle System. You can still choose the ATB system between wait and active mode.

In Final Fantasy VIII, you don’t need to grind to strengthen your party. On the contrary, the higher the level of your party, the enemy will balance the level of the party and become more difficult. Besides that, this game provides a junction system that will help strengthen your party’s stats with the help of Guardian Force (GF) and magic.

On the other hand, there is a drawing system that functions to extract magic when you are fighting. With this system, you don’t need to use MP, but you need to store or cast magic from your opponent’s extraction. Each opponent has a different magic that can be extracted, so make sure you always check the magic available on the opponent.

The gameplay of Final Fantasy VIII is complicated and complex, but that’s what makes it fun and special. You can become very overpowered or tormented by this system, depending on how you play. You could say, this game is successful in presenting a memorable and memorable playing experience.

In this remastered version, there aren’t too many changes and it’s still out of date when compared to the graphics in today’s games, so you need to lower your expectations. Even so, this game is still pleasing to the eye, let alone polished with a remastered upgrade.

Some of the graphic changes in this game include anti-aliasing, depth of view, and also the remodel of some characters. Unfortunately, in the mobile version there are no graphics settings available, so you can only use the highest rule by default.

Like other music produced by Nobuo Uematsu, Final Fantasy VIII still offers a soundtrack that is not inferior in quality to other Final Fantasy titles. Every music, both the main theme and background music, is certainly ready to play with your emotions.

Various soundtracks will be very easy to remember when you play this game. Some of the famous soundtracks from this series include Eyes on Me, Liberi Fatali, Balamb Garden, and Julia.

Broadly speaking, this port control feels not very comfortable, but it’s standard. If you’ve ever used an emulator on a mobile device, then more or less the feel you get is the same as using it.

This port provides 2 types of movement pads, namely 8-directional pads and analog pads. On the other hand, for the interaction buttons, there are 4 buttons with general features such as confirmation, back, menu, and special interactions. Meanwhile, the left and right buttons are available at the top corner of the screen. Interestingly, you can also adjust the opacity and saturation of the in-game virtual controller.

Then the good news, Square Enix says that this port will get additional controller features in a future update. This will make it much easier for players to control than having to touch the virtual controller available on the screen.

Final Fantasy has phenomenal gameplay that can be addictive, especially for those of you who like RPGs with turn-based combat. On the other hand, you will also be spoiled with a storyline that makes you curious and an emotional soundtrack.

One more thing, this game also has the best mini game from the entire Final Fantasy franchise, namely Triple Triad. Triple Triad is a mini game where you invite NPCs to play cards. With this mini game, you can collect rare cards and turn them into items that will help your progress while playing.

The presence of Final Fantasy VIII Remastered on the mobile platform is something that fans and JRPG lovers have been waiting for. The gameplay, storyline, and special soundtrack make Final Fantasy VIII remain one of the best RPG games with a unique mechanism and storyline that deserves to be followed.

I highly recommend this game for RPG lovers who require high mobility. The final word, the author gave a score of 8.5 for the Final Fantasy VIII Remastered port this time.
